Why do people feel the need to dress their pets?
Answers:
Because they forget that they are pets and not tiny furry people who don't talk.
I suppose they think it is cute - but I don't like it, it robs them of their dignity
to keep them warm
For some people, pets are surrogate children; as a result, they treat them they way they would treat a child, including providing clothing. Not my style, but I don't suppose it hurts anything either, so live and let live.
Because they are sad and pathetic and have nothing else in their useless lives.
Would you walk round naked?
i dont get it. its tacky, pointless and cruel yuck!
Because they are incredibly stupid people
Cause they have nothing else to do with their boring lives. Poor animals! x
I would think its to be individual or to attract attention.
Same reason that you wear a necklace. fashion. It adds flavor.
Well. some people like to dress up their pets as a form of entertainment. Yes, it may seem undignified, but you got to admit it is entertaining. For halloween, my sisters dogs don't really like to be dressed up but when they are in costume they are so adorable (and they look like they want to get revenge) and the way they act is funny. As for people dressing their pets up all the time. I think that they may be lacking some sort of human contact and thus start viewing their pet as a "fellow" human being. which isn't totally bad for the pet. until they get mad when the pet doesn't start answering their questions?
This is one of my pet hates!
Seriously, a coat if it is freezing, then maybe, but how cruel it all is. I hate it. I wish someone would take the owners and make them wear stiff collars, winkle picker shoes, itchy nylon pants and a balaclava all day- see how they like it!
The animals do not have a choice.
i dunno, my sis does it to her little rat so i undress the poor little mite as soon as she's not looking, i dont like little dogs really but i hate seeing them suffer
well some people love there pets and consider them as there children, so what do you do with your kids
? you take care of them dress, feed care for them.
I dont see anything wrong with a sweater in the winter, but some people go all out and that is way too much.
It's just really fun and entertaining! I had a black cat who willingly donned a Santa suit every Christmas and would go out running around the neighborhood in the Santa suit. I practically peed my pants laughing! If the cat had not liked wearing it, as evidenced by looking uncomfortable or trying to get out of it, I would not have put it on him, but he seemed to like it. It kept him warm and he looked really cute!
I used to think that it was one of the most stupid things to do
but now pets are getting manicures because of their stupid owners' unnecessary demands!! I'll never get that.
Wow, some people here have some really cruel and mean answers. I too used to think that it was silly and impractical. And some dogs really look unhappy in clothing. I recently got a chihuahua. I'd never had such a small dog before and she's seriously so cold all of the time. She's always shivering. So we bought her clothing. She likes it and although she doesn't appreciate getting dressed, she doesn't even know that she's wearing it once it's on. She's warmer and happier. Plus we don't have children either so maybe she is much like a little baby to us. We don't put clothes on her all of the time. But a little sweater for when she's cold doesn't hurt anything. Anyway, I think it's a little ridiculous some of the answers here. Talk about mean for no particular reason.
because they're crazy
I hate that. My mum does that on occasion to our dog. She bought a baby grow that she puts on our dog. The look on her (the dog's) face is like "kill me now". We try to stop her doing it, but she does it to show her friends occasionally. Poor dog luckily for her it's once a year at most, so it's not as bad as some people.
Some people put purpose made animal clothing on delicate pets to keep them warm or for protection. Few people would criticise this action.
Some people put small fashoinable bandanas and hats etc on their pets as an extension of their own image - this is perhaps a reflection of their attitude to their possessions and the living creatures connected with them.
Some people dress their pets in human clothing. This may be attractive to them because they think it looks cute or childlike. This may be as a result of boredom, a child replacement type behaviour, and is again a reflection of their attitude to living creatures around them.
People often say that it demeans the animal or takes away their dignity. I'm not sure this is correct. Certainly it is unatural for the pet and in has little practical value. However, few pets object or resist and those who do not find the experience stressful can not be viewed as subject to cruelty.
Rather, I believe that it is more demeaning for the person dressing the pet up! It exposes their over attachment and often unbalanced attitude to the pet. It is very likely that they pay very close attention to the needs of their pet and the animal is very well cared for.
I would suspect that a tendency to obsess over a pet would be related to other unbalanced attitudes in other areas of their lives and that surely is cause for concern!
In the winter a little sweater 2 keep them warm is OK, but the summer its hot enough already for them so i don't get that part! I guess so they can be cute? Not sure!
Maybe they just have too much time leftover doing nothing so they pick on their pets.
Lack of boundaries! I put a sweater on my dog in winter because she is old and gets cold easily and has arthritis
I have often wondered this, I think it is pitiful and makes the poor puppy look goofy. Geez, they have fur, how much more do they need. If my dog gets cold we go inside, it is that simple. I think people should leave the clothes to the idiots like Paris.
I feel that people dress their pets, because they are pretty much humans, and since humans get dressed, you mine as well dress the dog.
i dress my westie with a coat in the winter as he gets cold and shivers
I am at a loss why they do it..I admit that I had the misfortune of having to go and purchase a waterproof coat for my dog recently, only because he is a total wimp and will not walk in the rain..impossible to get him out of the house.I could not understand why they were fleece lined with pockets on them, you should have seen some of the things that were on sale..it was like outfits for dolls..I just wanted something to keep him dry and allow him to enjoy his walkies, poor Ben he is a bit of a tit for a gun dog. I feel so sorry for the pet being made to dress up and look totally ridiculous.they can keep warm, they look lovely in their 'all together' so leave them alone or get a bloody dolly to play with.
