We keep getting earwigs in our rabbit hutch. Is there anything we can do to stop them getting in?
Is there anything that we can put onto the legs of the hutch that would stop them being able to climb up, or are there any repellants that we could use that wouldn't harm the rabbits?
Answers:
Yuo could change the locks whilst they are out.
you could try fitting some bug netting on the open parts of the hutch, or make them house bunnies like mine.
The old-fashioned way was to place inverted flowerpots filled with dried grass, on sticks in the ground. The earwigs like to set up house in them.
Rabbits make great house pets. If you spay or neuter them then it cuts back on the smell from hormones. Plus they can be litter box trained. When rabbits are outside they face problems like ear wigs but also attacks from predators, hypothermia, heat stroke and flystrike. http://www.rabbit.org
Perhaps placing fire on the legs of the hutch would stop the earwig aggressors. By covering the rabbits in aspestos rabbit suits this would reduce the risk of rabbit fire damage. This solution would, however, be useless against abseiling earwigs and wigs utilising flight based solutions.
maybe you have already tried but how about moving the hutch? you can get nets to go over the front of the hutch to keep out flys, maybe that would work?
i really couldn't tell you for sure because i have never had that problem
I too know this problem only too well, i think its down to the hutch being damp after its rained or whaever. Try and keep the hutch particularly the sleeping and resting part dry seems to work for me.
You could try bringing the rabbit inside to live with you instead of keeping it in a hutch outside.
