What happens to the animals in pet shops when the shops close for the evening?

Out comes the Booze and Fags they have rave up till just before opening time

They go to sleep
They stay in their cages just like they do all day ! Prob have a kip etc.

The big striped cat starts yawning, the woodpecker becomes arrogant and the mice start to sing songs about good work ethics. Oh, and the toad likes to play his banjo..
They stay in the shop
They have a party while the owner is away, get drunk and sleep.
They sleep, eat, pee, poop, whatever. If it is a small shop the dogs and cats will cry for attention, but then generally chill. Untill they are purchased, it is a loney time.
Sadly, even after they are taken to ahome, some are discarded just a short time because the newness has worn off.

People should buy animals straight from the breeders - don't support pet shops that sell animals from the shop window - it is cruelty! They have too small cages for the animals and at night they often leave the lights on so that the passers by can look at them in the shop window. Often they are not cared for properly and the conditions subject them to illnesses. Its wrong to treat animals this way and especially young animals. Make a difference - don't support these shops!

in the shops i have worked for, nothing different to what they do throughout the day is done for the night time run,
i have never worked in a shop that has sold pets such as cats and dogs, but the smaller animals are normally checked on the make sure that they have plently of food and water for the night, and that all are healthy..
were parrots are concerned, normally they used to be put in the warmest place in the shop, all together so they could communicate and keep each other talking throughout the night, they always had plently of toys in the cage to last them through the night if they fancied not being social.
to be honest in times of school hoildays i bet the animals couldnt wait for the silence of the nighttime, no kids screaming and poking fingers in the cage, can you imagine living like this 24/7 constantly being scared?.

lights off, silence..and no human touch
i work in a pet shop. once a tiny snake escaped from our overstock area. in the morning one of our skittish workers, she likes all animals except reptiles, had the snake looking over the top of the shelf just watching her. freaked her out beyond all reason.
just recently, we had a ferret that was an escape artist. she got out one night, but didn't go far. she also ate a parakeet's head. thankfully, i wasn't there to find it.
I work at a Petsmart (which doesn't sell cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, or chinchillas- basically any of the high maintenance animals that need lots of space).
At night we have huge closing procedures. Basically we make sure everything has food and water, the cages are locked, and the lights are turned off. Most of the small animals are nocturnal so they start playing on their wheels.
Other than sleeping less, that's all that changes.

Usually the way it works in pet shops is first thing in the mornings animals are fed, watered and get new bedding. As the day goes on they are checked on for things they may need and at night given more food and water again and they bed down unless they are nocturnal.
Those animals play or root for food as they need.
the owners of the shop feed them,make sure they're ok then go home. the pets then probley go to sleep.
