Why does my dog eat grass now and then? By the way, he is on a well balanced diet..?

Answers:
Your dog eats grass to help it digest the fur it licks off itself. Just lick a cat it cannot digest fur, and that gives it a stomach ache. The acid in grass helps him digest it better.
Upset tummy.
They all do it, don't they? I think it aids digestion. Cats do it too.
uhh, that is not a dog you have there, it's a goat!
Dogs eat grass to aid in digestion. Sometimes they will eat grass to help them vomit and get rid of what is causing them an upset stomach.

He just likes a salad once in a while. Really. They like fresh greens sometimes. By the way, if he hurls it up afterwards, it's because some grass has rough edges that irritate the esophagus. It's not because his stomach is upset.
Grass to cats and dogs is like a medicine when they`re not feeling to well. It doesnt harm them at all - so let your dog eat grass.

Dogs may eat grass when they have an upset stomach in order to cause vomiting. The grass will bind with the offending material. Then the grass acts as an irritant and causes the dog to vomit, bringing up the poisonous material at the same time. Or it might be that he just 'likes it'! In any case, grass eating is basically a normal behavior, and is not of concern unless your dog does it excessively.
all dogs and cats eat grass from time to time, it just means they have a upset tummy, but i wouldn't let him do it to many times a day to much grass can be UN healthy for him.

For digestive purposes.
Grass, in particular, acts like a laxative or IPECAC, to clean out their system and help with digestion of meat.

Quite common and natural, really.
because they have a stomache ache. how many more people are gonna ask that?! I'm only 13 and i've known that forever!!
Don't worry, they all do it and no one really knows why. Its best to grow him a patch of rough rye grass in your garden for him to eat, and let him get on with it. It doesn't hurt and its nothing to do with worms or poor management.
