Is my cat on its way out?
My cat has started showing signs of blood in its poo. She is about 13 years old but seems fit in every other way (i can see) -

Cats can get blood in their stool for many reasons- including viruses, cancer, irritated bowel, parasites, being fed table food, getting into the garbage, aging, blockages, etc.- some far more dangerous than others. Is she running a fever? Any other symptoms? Vomiting? If she is much less active than usual, has any swelling, a fever or reduced body temp., than the condition may be life-threatening, and a visit to your emergency vet is in order If not, watch her, and get her in for a checkup in a reasonable time frame (within a few days). Most likely there is medication that will help her problem (metronidazole, antihelminthic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, etc.), and help her be more comfortable.
As for the "is she on her way out?" portion of the question- she will let you know in no uncertain terms when she is ready to go, if you listen to her body language. Having a small physical symptom is not a reason in and of itself to suspect she is getting ready to leave you. As long as she is maintaining a quality of life that allows her to keep her dignity she will be just fine. Intense prolonged pain, emaciation from sudden weight loss, inability to move or take care of her daily functions for an extended period of time- these are things that would necessitate consideration of her being at the end. Is she still eating, drinking, pottying, playing, sunning herself, and showing an interest in her life? Then she is aging, but fine.
put that thing to sleep
Take it to the vets
go to the vet ASAP!
Maybe, See Vet Immediately Just For a Quote At Least.
Take her to the vet.
take her to the vet immediately she could be internally bleeding..
and yes could be dying.
You need to get the cat to the vet. Blood in poop is not good.
i think you should take it to the vet. My nas cat did this when it had leukemia, it died not long after
Take it to the vets!
it may be a kidney problem it doesnt mean shes going to die but to be on the safe side take her to the vet they will let you know what may be causing this
be good to the thing have it put down.
Poor little kitty, It could be nothing, take her to the vets though.
She might be getting into her golden years. That is a long life for a cat, she's a lucky kitty.
Take her to the vet if you are concerned.
Call and or take her to your local Vet.
Bring her to the vet you don't want her suffering maybe it is time to put her down.
the only person who will know is the vets!!
best thing to do is go to a vet, they would know whats wrong with her, but i dont think shes on her way out, could b that shes having trouble pooping, so she might b forcing the poop out..
I shouldn't right her off just yet, our cat is the same age and they can live to be over 20. Have her checked out at your vets and hear what they have to say.
take her to the vets,it may just be worms
Well it definetly sounds like something serious, so take your cat to the vet as soon as possible.. right now!!
I think it's best for the vet to decide; is she insured?
ohhh I am so sorry to hear your cat isn't feeling well. Blood in the poop would be a red flag to bring to the vet and get checked out. Sometimes the animals can live a long time. Your cat is 13 years old? Awesome!!! I hope my two cats live that long too. Definately call the vet and get your cat checked out.
It can mean an awful lot of things and should go to vet, blood is always a sign of something wrong. 13 is not so old for a cat so I wouldnt say she's on the way out but if she has a serious illness she would be if left untreated.
Do we really need to tell you to take her to the vet?
It's impossible to know what's wrong with her unless she is submitted to a physical examination with an expert.. take her already!
It's Old Yeller time.
I have a cat that gets bloody poop sometimes- he checks out ok at the vet. He has had ultrasounds, ekgs- the whole works. I think it is just hard poops. Every situation is different though- get him checked out. Hopefully it will be nothing.
I have a 22 yr old cat so to me 13 is not old. Vets consider cats to be "senior" when they are over ten years old. According to my chart your cat is around 60 in human years.
So she should be checked out by a vet on a regular basis. Blood in the stool is not a good sign so I definitely recommend that you take her in to the vet to see if he knows what the problem could be, suggest something to help, do a blood panel to make sure her kidneys and thyroid are functioning well, that she is not anemic, etc.
Blood panels run around $100 now for me here. The vet gets a big bang for your buck here as it reveals a lot of information. A vet appointment and examination here runs about $44.
Quite a lot of cats nowadays who have been looked after well, live way beyond 13, and still lead active lives to the end. I am a little concerned that you post on this site and are happy to get good/bad diagnosis on that basis. This could be many different things, not necessarily terminal. The fact that she is well in every other way is a good sign. Please take her to the vet.though..She can't ask you or tell you whats wrong. You owe it to her. Post your news when you have been and good luck. I hope all will be well.XX
Take it to a vet. it could be multiple problems
You can go to www.JustAnswer.com and set a price like $10, or less to ask a Vet, or Vet tech. Also try www.animalhealthchannel.com. Cats can live to be 20 if kept indoors.

Blood in your cat's feces is not necessarily a death sentence. It may just be as simple as a bacterial infection, which pets of any age can get. As long as there aren't any other problems (like if she weren't eating for example) then it very well may be a minor problem. If your cat is indoor only and not exposed to other, non-vaccinated cats then the chances of her having something like feline Leukemia, feline AIDS, or FIP is pretty much zero. Cats can only get those diseases from being around an infected cat that has bitten them or shared their water & food bowl. Take her in to the vet and let them run a parasite & bacterial test on your kitty to find out what's going on. Good luck!
