Is it possible to keep a buffalo as a household pet - if one has a sufficiently-sized garden?

For the production of mozzarella - and the good company, obviously.

Answers:
You seem a little confused my farming friend; Water Buffalo make mozarella - not literally, you have to milk 'em. Water Buffalo need a fair sized river to stand around in. They can do very well on grass, hay, cattle cake and South American Water Hyacinth which grows like a weed and so will keep your production costs down.
Buffalo are North American and require a few thousand acres of mixed grassland and clover. I don't think theres much milk on a buffalo.
If you want you can.
If people can keep elephant why not buffalo.
Would depend on where you live. Many towns have rules on what size animals are allowed, how many neighbors you've got etc. Check with your town hall.
Sure. There's a place near here that had buffalo in their back yard just because they were a nice decoration for their Native American themed shop.
Yeah I saw one on TV
er Not in the UK I don't think so.

probably in USA you can. They can have all sorts of pets. Crocs, tigers, lions, lynx's, eagles, buffalo's.
Absolutely, so long as it is the asiatic variety. The african buffalo is intractable.
I've heard of this being the case in Alberta.

However, this can only be possible if:
1. You can get your hands on a buffalo
2. The buffalo is sufficiently tame that it won't attack you
3. Your "garden" is more like an acreage.

Buffalo mozzarella, eh?
No, most city ordinance will prevent you from having exotic animals as housepets.
I suspect it would be likely to hurt you. They are not domestic like cows. A buffalo will mess your day up if you cross it. That's like keeping a kangaroo as a pet. One day it would be sitting in your living room watching Jerry Springer, and when you ask it to pass the nachos it would turn around and knock your lights out. Again, not a domestic animal. You might want to get a dog, and if you're lucky you can make cheese from it as well.
Buffalo need a fairly large area to roam and graze. You would need something akin to a farm. Plus they do better in the herd then alone.

You would need to check your local zoning ordinances and local laws about pets.
Buffalo are not notoriously docile. I'd glue down the china.
Yes..feed it chips and avoid "the herd" mentality.
Yeah. Everyone is doing it now a days. It's kinda becoming a fad in America. My cousin just got 2 for his birthday and he is only 7 and lives in New York.
Absolutely, so long as it is the african variety. The asiatic buffalo is intractable. and quite rapey.
You can possibly keep a Buffalo as a wild pet, but I dloubt the State will grant you access to keep one, I mean aren't they starting/being watched from extinction?
Here in Oklahoma the US Wildlife Refuge sells them off every year. The ones they get off the range can knock down most fences no problem. They are not the brightest of the animal kingdom

Here is a web site
yes but get 2 as they like company
absolutely yes. buffalos make really nice pets. They are very caring and understanding. If you are down just look him straight in the eyes and tell him all your problems and you'l see how patient a listner you've got. They help with the lawn both mowing(grazing) and fertilizing (you know buffalo droppings). they are very good at protecting your property as no thief will venture into the sweet aroma of buffalo droppings!

lets see what other advantages?

oh yes they are good cooks too.buffalo chicken wings!

and lastly never forget that if the relationship doesnt work out you will have a lot of hamburger meat for a long time.

I cant believe people still have dogs and cats as pets after knowing the advantages of the above.

I really think this is a bit of a
BULL SH** QUESTION
why don't you set up a tee pee as well and get a tribe of Apache's to keep the buffalo company
Aside from the laws and ordinances that govern the keeping of animals on your property, I suppose it's possible. Heck, almost anything is possible! However, American Bison are range animals and migrate seasonally. It's not fair to keep such an animal penned in your garden for your pleasure, whether it's for the mozzarella or the "good company." Yuck!
I think a buffalo is much tamer and acceptable for a pet than a crocodile or a cobra if you have enough space. But a buffalo is sometimes stubborn and you have to watch out for his temper. If you're planning to grass-fed your buffalo for an organic milk production, let me taste a sample of your home-grown mozzarella!
It would be cruel to keep a buffalo as a 'household' pet, but if they got to live in a field and run around free then it should be okay--that's if the buffalo want's to be your pet.
Hmmmm not sure about keeping one you should get two so they are not lonely, if you have enough space you can keep what ever you like.
Maybe you should build them a giant fully furnished shed in your garden as they may chew your house to bits when they are little baby ones and there hair gets everywhere.
YEH, PROBABLY NOT IN THE UK.THOUGH..
