Does anyone here have a dominate westie?
Answers:
Hi Jazzib
I have the same trouble with my westie,,, OHHHHHH i can't even take her out she just runs of and really i have to get the kids to go after her. She cries when i am eating, even tho i always feed her first. She sits and looks at me as if to say i want some of yours NOW. She was a rescue dog and at first i thought i should give her all she wanted and BOY am i sorry now, so yes i have the same kind of problem as you do. I will look it up and may be we can help each other

My mother in law has a westie and she will only let him off the lead if my husband is around - for some reason he has better control over him.
We got a phone call once because her dog had the scent of something and wouldn't come out of the bushes, we had to go and help her out.
Maybe you should take treats with you when you go for a walk - he might come back to you then.
We have a female westie and yes, even though she is a ***** she does her own thing! She does tend to listen to my husband more (but he fusses over her more.. aaawww). Do you think he maybe just runs away because he has caught a scent? They are originally ratters so if you walk in a park with him he might get that scent. I haven't got anymore advice on this so I wish you all the luck!
Take him to dog training classes and get moral support while you go through the training; you can't expect him to give up his dominant status without a struggle!
I'd suggest you start by having him neutered if you haven't already done so.
take him to dog training classes where you can learn to get him under control, he needs to know you are the leader otherwise he will, if not already, become unruly and maybe a problem dog
