How long do german shepard dogs live for?

My first one lived to be 14.My current one is nearly 6.I think the average lifespan is probably 12 or 13.They are great dogs.Keeping them on the lean side,feeding a premium dog food,and making sure they get enough exercise,and regular vet care helps all dogs live longer lives.My brother's GSD lived to be 13.

I had one that lived for 16 years...given the right care. Some have hip problems or cancer..it all depends on their health but if healthy and given a good life, they live on.

they can live till about 15 yrs old it all depends on their care and handling plus what they eat.
My german shepard that my parents put down in July, due to health problems, was 14 years old, but the last couple years of her life werent all that great.
She had arthritis in her hips, she was going deaf(completely by July), and she couldn't control her bladder when she slept. She was just miserable!
I miss her soo much though! we had her since she was 8 weeks old!
My vet told me that the average life span for a German Shepherd is 10 - 12 years. Though many live beyond that, they are often plagued with hip problems, and the last few years of their lives are not quality years. They often live in great pain, due to the fact that their owners can't bear to part with them. Good food and plenty of exercise can increase your dog's life expectancy.

My last one lived to be 14, but this is exceptional. 10 to 12 years is more normal. If you are buying, make sure you find whether hip dysplasia if in her genetic make-up; I lost a lovely longhaired GS boy when his pel;vis collapsed at the age of 5...no little chariots in those days, sadly.

So 14/15 years if they don't have HD is a good age !
ho long is a piece of string they can live for a while but can run in to problems as they get older
