Shall i get a siamese cat?
HI can you help? i have had cats all my life and 2 years ago my 15 year old cat died and i have missed him ever since, My wife does not want another cat especially a siamese. I have been in contact with a breeder and have watched a kitten grow and showed alot of interest in it, i think he is gorgeous. My wife thinks it will wee and poo all over the place, scratch up my leather sofas and scratch my 3½ year old son. The breeder says the kitten has grown up with kids and is house trained. here is a picture of it --> http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n308/.
My question is, shall i just go ahead and buy it? I get the hump when my wife goes on and on about not wanting it, im having dreams about it and just dont know what to do! help!

I'm a great fan of Siamese cats; I've had four in my lifetime (I'm 51), and have always enjoyed their talkative nature and independence. I suppose the greater question here is whether this will create a rift between you and your wife. Perhaps if you tell her how much you miss your cat, and how fond of this lovely little kitten you've grown, she can understand a little better. I don't know how long you have been married, but I'm wondering if perhaps she simply doesn't have a lot of experience with cats? As to cleanliness questions, I have literally never known a healthy cat to fail to use a clean litter box, especially if it's in a secluded area; I'm particularly fond of the automatic kind (like "Littermaid") which have become quite reasonably priced since they were first introduced; a good quality cat litter with a pleasant but not overpowering scent is also a huge help. Covering waste is instinctive for a cat (it helps hide their presence from potential predators), so as long as the kitten knows where the box is, and isn't unduly disturbed while using it, I don't see a problem at all. Whatever you decide, best of luck!
what a cute kitty. Make sure that if you decide to get it that she will let you keep it. You wouldnt want it to end up at a shelter. But i think if you really want it she should learn to deal with it and let you get it. Good Luck
if you want to keep your wife don,t get it they are the worst for yowling and keep you awake all night. If the cat is trained properly it will not poo and wee all over the place but it will scratch the house to pieces as all cats do that we know to our cost lol
he's a sure cutie!!
Well, he's not gonna potty all over the place UNLESS you litter box train him, when and if you get him, bring him home., and put him in your bed room, put the litter box in there too, show him the litter box, and every five minutes or so after he eats, put him in the litter box again, he WILL TAKE RIGHT TO IT.he might play in the litter at first (just being a kitten) but HE WILL USE it..thats all it takes, now for the scratching furniture, you can buy scratching posts, or get him declawed (I dont recommend declawing, but he starts tearing stuff up I would) scratching your son...nope! he might playing but thats it, these cats are not evil! they will play, if he sticks his little claws out when playing hold his paw and tell him no! your son cannot mistreat the kitten (pullin tail, throwing him) caus eit will cause him to be skittish or become mean.
I think this about wraps it up.I've been a cat owner for the last 10 years, and they are very great animals,a dn a lot smarter than what you truly think they are!
I have a Siamese and he is the most gentle cat ever he is 7 and my kid are 11 and 15 he has never scratched or bit anyone,it's good for little kids to be taught to respect animals, animals in my opinion don't hurt unless they are mistreated,I also have another cat and a Bull mastiff and they all get on together.A large scratching post stops them scratching the furniture. He always uses his litter tray too.The kitten is beautiful what will you call him?
sure if ya like em
he is so cute.my siamese cat died a few months ago and ive had him longer than my daughters been alive and shes 13.i miss him so much.he was such a good kitty.neways i think you should get the kitty.if the breeder says hes trained and your wife doesnt believe it then get the breeder to let you have like an in-home trial with the cat for a few days and see what she thinks.goodluck
Well, you will have a problem if your wife doesn't want it. Unfortunately, cats do scratch. My siamese used to climb my drapes. He also liked to attack my heels, but I loved him and he loved me. If you want the cat and you and your wife can come to an agreement, then got for it and have her front claws removed, but then she will be defenseless outside. You are in a pickle. I think siamese cats have the best of all personalities for cats.
There are always enough problems that two people have in a marriage -- why would you want to aggravate your wife with a kitten?
Every cat should be a member of a family - welcomed and tolerated and loved by everyone in the household. If your wife will be antagonistic toward the kitten it is really not fair to HIM to put him in that situation.
first its nice to see someone other than a woman begging for a animal, i think you need to talk to your wife first, or you might both be homeless !!! siamese are great , vocal, and all cats scratch thats what claws are for, you need a large scratch post for it to use if you do get it, and maybe invest in a few of those cheap mat type door mats, my cats claw them to pieces, overall cats are clean and good at using litter trays, but i do think you should ok it with your wife, maybe there is a reason for her not wanting it, maybe she has got one already as a surprise maybe !!
well if you can assure your wife you will take full responsibility clean and replace etc, at all times she should say yes.
my aunt has a Siamese tom cat and he is the most gentle loving cat she has ever had. he's great with kids of all ages from toddlers too older kids he loves a fuss and is house trained. i only see him now and again and love him too bits. he was recently mauled by a dog and we nearly lost him but he made a good recovery except that he'll be left with a really bad limp and cant jump as high as he used too its not stopped him being a lovely natured adorable as ever.
