They are a cross between the Standard Schnauzer and Affenpinscher and originated from Germany. The Schnauzer type itself is from crossing a black Poodle and Gray Spitz with old german Pinscher stock.Affenpinscher is only for decreasing the size to miniature. It is less aggressive in temperament than the Standard and is a hardy, active, intelligent, good with children and excellent ratter.Its original duty is to destroy vermin and guard the yard and stable.They usually DO NOT show any of the nervous, yappy disposition of terriers.
For the upkeep of their coat, several trips to the groomer is needed in a year.It is not a fighter but they do have a feisty side especially with other animals.They may snap in defense if children played too rough.
I personally have one and they are AWESOME! My schnauzer Harley is a fisty, loving, GREAT dog to have. They dont bark bark bark all day. They love to be spoiled and they have the greatest personality. I love him! There growl is awesome! He likes to sleep and he doesnt do it in the kennel. He is very spoiled. Goodluck!

They are very smart, very loving to their owners, like others of same breed, they can be prey driven and go after smaller animals including but not limited to cats, mice, guinea pigs, etc. They are a big dog in a small package and can and will start fights with other dogs even large dogs so they can get hurt easily, they seem to get bored easily and need alot of attention, when I had my two they followed me everywhere and I gave them jobs to do and they loved that, like taking clothes to hamper etc, etc, they usually love kids, they are protective think I mentioned that, they are vocal, like to "talk" to ya..hmm hope that helps. I have had two but been around lots of them, my whole family has them, great, wonderful dogs!
