Pet Passports - if I am going to Spain and not returning does my cat need one?
My vet told me today that I only needed a pet passport for my 17 year old Puss if I was intending to come back to UK with her. Has anyone had any experience of this? The DEFRA website is a little ambiguous.

Yes, most travel companies require one, most vets will say an export license is enough but it's not, most airlines or ferry operators won't let you take your pet without it's passport.
The best thing you can do is check with the company/ies you think you might travel with.
Passports are for people. You would probably have to register your animal with the humane society when you get there. That's about it.

She needs a health-passport - incl the vacciations- PLUS microchip which is now obligatory for EU countries.
I am sure the vet can ask the authorities and provide you with everything your cat needs to cross boarder. It can take a little time so hurry up a little.
and don't forget to make a cat-reservation for the plane together with yours!
Most countries require documentation regarding the pets health history and vaccination history. If the cat is up to date on all vaccines, there should be no problem. If kitty is missing required vaccinations, he may have to do some time in quarantine before being allowed into said country. We had a terrible time with our kitty coming back from Costa Rica into the United States, they kept her in customs for two weeks! She lost four pounds and was terribly traumatized. But that's the good ole U.S. for you. I guess they thought she was a possible terrorist suspect. HA HA. Good Luck.
