My Daughters 'gold' goldfish has turned to 'silver'.?
Why?
Answers:
ah i am sure your daughteer was sad to see her little gold fish turn silver. Not really fair on her when she bought GOLD fish. I dont know what you could tell her. I dont have an answer for you either sorry. But make it fun as to telling her why her gold fish turned silver. Make a story about it. May be that will cheer her up
It is common for scoundrels who run fun fairs to dip the fish in gold paint before giving them away as prizes.
some fish do change colour as they grow dont know why sorry
some goldfish and koi change colors, no one know why
Fish change colors naturally. It is what is written in their genes that determines what colors they will become. Different foods can effect the degree of these colors, as can tank temperature and pH, but ultimately, what is genetically meant to be - is.
Black on a gold or red fish is a very transient color - in young fish you will often see a cute little mustache or black fins or spots. These very commonly will go to all orange or red over time. A fish with white or off white and red will often turn ornage and red. The color is determined by the skin under the scale.
It was a gold plated impostor.
Or perhaps its a goldfishes version of turning grey.

as they grow up they do change . but it could be a gen thing.
I'm not sure why this happens, but fear not. My goldfish started out orange, then he went to silver, then black, and orange again. Weird.
Is he getting old perhaps?
It may be the food you are feeding them, most fish need the pigments found in the food they eat daily. It may take a little while but try switching foods to one that contains dehydrated shrimp as the pink color might help your fish regain its color.
I've had a goldfish for 10 years, so i was interested to see what answers you'd get as i was putting mine down to age. He started going paler about 2 years ago, but lets face it you don't know the age of a goldfish when you purchase it, it seems perfectly happy though
Many goldfish change color as they age. And unless the scales are starting to stick out/get fuzzy, or the fish looks like it was sprinkled in salt and is scraping against object, it rarely means that there is a health issue. Adding 1 teaspoon of salt for every gallon of water in the bowl may be a good idea though, and an increase in water changes. Unless you see some change in the way they are behaving coupled with the color change, I would suggest you don't make any drastic changes with what you are doing as stress can cause sickness.
A
Well Lobsters change from a Bluish colour to Red when immersed in boiling water......erm..... haven`t have you?

I get my daughter feeder fish and let them get big in her 80 gall and every time at least 2 of the 10 do this. they can also live a very long time
