You might try rescuing a dog before buying one. You can go online and search for breed specific rescue societies. You'd be surprised how many there are. They usually have dogs of any age too.
try the animal shelter..it might not be the dog that you like, but it might hab a golden retriever.

you could buy it a pet store. if they don't have it talk to the manager..he might order some to that shop. That's how i got my little puppy.

also, try if anyone in ur neighborhood is giving out dogs for free or selling for cheaper. It could be a golden retriever.
Please, please, please!

Consider adopting a dog from an Animal Shelter, Pound, or Humane Society. Or, since you're looking for a specific breed, I recommend a Pure Breed Dog Rescue organization, which can be easily found on the web if your local shelter doesn't have something they can refer you to.

I know that the shelter I work for has lots of retrievers, or retriever mixes most of the time.

As a volunteer with Humane Societies for several years I can tell you that shelter dogs make great pets. They often have heartbreaking tales of neglect and abuse in their past, and yet are so totally willing to forgive us humans and offer us unconditional love. These animals seem to know that their lives have been given a second chance, and been saved, and the way they respond to those who rescue and adopt them is overwhelming.

Also, in general, "Mutt" dogs/mixed breeds are more intelligent than pure bred dogs and have better health. Many breeds have become inbred, and have genetic tendencies towards certain health problems. [For example, retrievers are prone to hip displacements].

Also try to keep in mind that an older dog is one who has already passed through that awkward puppy period of chewing/teething on everything, and is usually already house trained. [yes, puppies are cute, everybody wants one, but they're like a baby, LOTS of work and time is needed for them]. Some of the shelter dogs I work with even know basic commands, such as "sit" and are fast learners who approach the chance to learn good manners with an open heart. You will also have a better understanding of just how big your dog is likely to get if you adopt an older dog, most have them have already reached their full size.

Will this kind of dog suite your living situation and lifestyle? Do you have a yard? Room for an animal to run? The ability to take a dog for walks or exercise? If you're planning on having your dog be outside, be sure to have a good fence and a warm shelter available. Retrievers are very active dogs, they need LOTs of room and exercise.

Most shelters include the price of spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and a year's license in their adoption fees, 100% of which go back to helping care for other homeless animals. This is so much better than paying a breeder or puppy mill, or a store where the animals may not necessarily get the best care. If you do decide to go with a breeder or a store be sure to research the way in which they care for their animals and have a vet check any animal before your final purchase if at all possible, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Thanks for letting me ramble
From any reputable breeder, just don't get it from a pet store most of those puppies come from puppy mills.
