Do worms really exist?

It depends on what sort you are questioning. If it is worms you see in the garden, then obviously, yes.
If it is the parasitic (Feeds on a host animal) then the answer is also yes. There are round worms which are round in shape, and will attach themselves to the gut wall of a host animal such as a cat or dog. Roundworms will feed on the gut contents, and will produce eggs which will hatch and the numbers of individuals will fill the gut, causing the animal to become anorexic, leading to death. As the worms detach from the gut, damage is caused, reducing the efficiency of nutrient absorption from the gut to the blood stream in the animal, resulting in malnutrition then death.
The other type are the tapeworms. These are flat, and live freely in the gut of a host animal. They do not attach themselves to the gut wall, and will only be very low in numbers. Eggs will be laid outside the animal in the faeces (poo) and will look like grains of rice. These worms don't cause the animal any harm, and can go unnoticed.

Yes they do exist, they aerate the soil as well as turn waste into nutrient rich worm droppings, which makes the soil better for plants to grow! Plus they are food for birds and fish..
