My persian cat always poos by the sofa then pushes it under the sofa why?!!?
we have had him for three years and it wasnt till we noticed the smell after about 3 months

because he is making weapons of mass destruction and trying to cover it up, well he is from Iran
well at least he hides it , myn just leaves it in the middle as if hes proud of it

What an intelligent and deranged cat you have! I had one who used to use the coal bucket for poos and pee in the bath
Do you get mad when he does something wrong maybe he doesnt like it when you scold him and he thinks you are going to get mad and he pushes under the sofa..thats kind of nasty but cute...
Uh oh! If he's always done this and you've put up with it for 3 years you may have trouble breaking the habit. Maybe he was never litter trained as a kitten, who knows, is his litter tray clean? Is it placed away from his food bowl? (Try putting the tray in the bathroom). And have you tried putting some of his 'offerings' in it to get the point across? Does he have to share it? Where does he pee?
You may have to resort to crate training him as if he were a puppy. The website below has info on crate training, they have cat experts as well. I think you need a behavioural trainer to get to the bottom of this and figure out how to get him to use the tray.
Have you been using anything different on your floors? If so, he could be scenting it all over again&again &again! Even if its a small thing,like different carpet fresh,or polish etc etc. Maybe something was spilled? he dosent like it . Think ! Then again Persians are very territorial.

Cats considers leaving poo in plain sight "rude" .. that's why he pushes it under the sofa. or it could be that you are watching too much T.V. and are ignoring him.. He is clearly trying to tell you something.. Make sure the litter box is clean. cats will find somewhere else to poo if the litter box smells bad.

as he sounds pretty clued up, show him the toilet..you never know, he might be the only male that doesnt miss getting it in the toilet and one that remembers to flush the chain after himself!
