My hamster eating his bars?

ok got a syrian hamster about 2 weeks ago. he keeps eating the bars on his cage. he has wooden thngs to chew on and is taken out everynight he doesn't make the screaming noise and would appear happy. any ideas on why he eats his bars?

Answers:
My hamster does the same thing, we have many different wooden things to chew on, and we have two running balls for her. She still continues to chew on the cage. I believe it is their natural animal instinct to want to be free and escape. I think as long as the cage is safe to chew on, and the noise isn't driving you insane, it should be fine. Try different chewys and ask a professional next time you are in a pet store!
he is grinding down his teeth. if he doesnt do this they will grow into his head and die. its normal.
Mabey the hamster is just bored. Does he have play things?
my hamster did that aswell! it kept me up for hours at nite! but it is jsut to grind its teeth i think
they just do that
it's normal
he is hungry
mine does that too, and ive been buying various wooden toys, and treats for him to chew on - its calmed him down a bit, but he still enjoys chewing - its because hamsters teeth keep growing, and he needs to chew to keep them down - otherwise they'll grow too long and painful for him to eat - i've found that he also loves chewing on dog biscuits and thankfully ive got a handful free from my petshop as they hand some out for customers dogs.. just give him lots of other things, especially wooden, or corn/stick treats to keep him occupied too - ive found mine sleeps a lot now and doesn't go so nuts - hope that helps!
My guinea pig does that for many reasons.
1.) If I come into the room with carroots, etc.
2.) If he wants to get out.
3.) He's begging for food.
4.) He wants attention
5.) He's filing his teeth.

He had several wooden chew toys as well as a salt lick in his cage. He sometimes just does that.

It's quite normal, don't fret.
hamsters teeth just keep growing constantly,so they have to chew to keep them down,
try putting some wood gnaws in that you can buy from the pet shop
It is perfectly normal. It is though more for attention seeking than wearing down his teeth. Just make sure that the cage is hamster safe (not paint covered bars). I've had hamsters for many years and the only way to stop them chewing is to let them out to have a run in their ball.
no hunny he isn't eating his bars, he is just chewing on them. Get him out more. You can buy a speacial formula spray wich you spray onto your bars and tastes very bitter to your hamster so then he will not go n ear him. also when i had my hamster i filled an old sock up with food and yummy hamster treats. hang it somehow on your hamsters bars and he will start to get occupied with that instead. not only that he will stop chewing on the bars and have lots of fun trying to find out what is in the sock lol. its also fun waching him lol. it actually works but you may have to replace the socks every now and then. however chewing on his bars shouldnt do any harm to your hamster but it may get annoying lol!
I have a chinese hamster, he used to drive me mad chewing the bars! The best solution I found was to get a cage with clear plastic sides instead of bars, syrian hamsters are roughly the same size so he should be fine. They have a good selection at Pets At Home if you live near one, fairly cheap too!
our hamster does this. Some do, some don't. i just hope the bars are not painted as this can be dangerous to the animals.
Maybe its because hes bored on his own-couldnt you look into a companion for him.
hi my hamster does that all night long lol so i put a blanket other it at night and she stoped i also bought sum wood for it to naw on try it see it that works
