This site explains what you have to do to bring your pet dog, cat or ferret into (or back into) the UK through the Pet Travel Scheme (or PETS for short) without putting it into quarantine. It also explains the requirements for bringing many other types of pet animals into the UK.
This site also tells you about quarantine in the UK for animals that don’t qualify for PETS.

phone defra on 01245 358 383 they deal with exporting and importing animals, and will have all the info
no it still has to go in for a week or so
Call a vet over there and get the information you need. Most countries do have quarantine laws for all animals.
How you think that ..
Unfortunately i think they will still have to go into quarantine. I think that there may be a loophole if they go via europe. But they would have to go in for 6 months.

contact defra in england. There is an alternative to quarantine if you're in a pet passport approved country. Unfortunately I don't think South Africa is approved, but if you contact defra in the UK the site will tell you more. I moved from the US to the UK 3 years ago and used the pet passport scheme.
All dogs will have to go into quarantine for at least 3 months if they have been outside the EU. You regularly hear about rescue dogs that have been to earthquake hit areas having to go into quaratine when they return to the UK.
Are you talking about the pet passport? Because it only applies for Europe.
Check out with your Vet before taking the dog out of England! Some dogs do not survive quarantine very well. They miss their owner too much and it can lead to lots of problems afterwards.
Best wishes
if it has all the correct documentation and the micro chip can be found upon re-entry into the country, then quarantine won't be needed. Get the dogs microchips position located before travelling just in case there are problems. Even if the dog has a microchip they can stop working or move around the body. If they can't be detected they will have to stay in quarantine for 6 months.
No, I don't think they have to be quarantined. It's crucial that they are checked over by a vet between 24 and 48 hours before arriving in Britain. The vet then issues a certificate to the owner stating that the dog has a clean bill of health.
