Why does my dog run to the door when someone calls? After all it is never for him?

Answers:
He only needs to be right once!
he's nosey :)
curious, and he thinks it is his house after all he is part of the family. My cat does the same.
He thinks it is his duty to protect you. And usually people do acknowledge him so, from his perspective, it is for him.
curiosity killed the damnded cat and he's trying to get rid of the kitty next door!
He's going to warn who it is, and then see if you're going to answer it. He may associate the ringing with the doorbell, if you have one.
lolol, how cute!! yeah, but it's their house too after all!
Oh yes it is. Dogs love people and he is delighted to have a visitor, hopefully not a solicitor.
cureossety and protection?
He sees his home as his territory. Dogs are territorial.
because your dog is bored, and wants to see what is happening, so that he can defend his territory.
protection, to make sure whoever answers is going to be ok. never know dont doubt it it mite be for him oneday.
Apparently he finds people around him quite boring and he's looking forward to seeing new faces.
maybe in his past life he was a butler
Your question requires a lot of thought. First of all, are you sure it's never for him?
If not, I guess he needs obedience classes to learn etiquette, in regards to interfering in someone Else's business. This would also be a good place for him to win friends and influence people (or dogs).
My nephew do'es it, but my daughter knows better. She's aware it could be the bailiffs. ha
It's not for him but as far as he is concerned the person knocking is coming to HIS house. He is king of the castle afterall!
Haaaaaa Haaaaa Haaaaaaa fcuking brilliant
dogs are ever hopeful that the dogs they sent invites to for biscuits and tea will some day respond...
It is the killer instinct and bloodlust.
Joey King, what part of Kent you from?
ur dog just want to make sure that nobody will hurt u,why?he's letting the person outside to know that he is there w/you, to protect u or even kill for you if the situation needs him to be..he's just being protective,he will even give his life to you, thats how loyal dogs are.Thats part of their instinct, why do u think god choosed dogs to becomes mans bestfriend?reverse the spelling..[GOD=DOG] get it? So instead of complaining to its behavior, try to praise him for that..coz if ever its a bad people whose in ur front door,ur dog would be ur 1st line of defense!

because he loves you, and he wants to protect you. But the knocking will proabably hurt his sensitive hearing and hes runs to let you know to make it stop.
Because he knows someone is there and he is curious as to who it is.
your dog ever bark at the postman? why? cos when he barks, the postie go's away. therefore the dog thinks he's well 'ard. and will bark at pretty much everyone who comes to your door in the vain hope to get the same result!
