It depends on the worm species actually. When you cut a worm in half, some species have the ability to regenerate a new "tail" which means you won't get two worms, you will get one alive worm and a dead tail of another. Very very few can generate a head. If you cut a normal worm to close to its head, it will die no matter what.
So the official answer is just once.
Moral of the story, now that you know, you don't need to cut any to find out.

Why would you even want to know that? Are you going to chop up an innocent worm just to find out? Worms are good for the environment - chop up a carrot instead.
