Litter training ferrets?

I am a new ferret owner - we have had our little fuzz bomb for two weeks, we are completely in love with him and he is spoilt rotten, he has numerous home made toys and my husband had made him a hammock for under our computer chair and a luxury pad 3 story's high to sleep in! he was a bit of a nipper when we got him but he has stopped this after 2 weeks of hugs, kisses and lots of play with us. The problem is we are desperately trying to litter train him but no matter how closely we watch him or how many times we put him in the litter tray or how many licks of ferretone we give him after we get lucky he just doesn't seem to want to know and actually waits for us to turn our backs so he can sneak a poop and dribble in on the floor. He will even try to move the litter tray out of the way in his cage (remember this is a luxury pad we're talking about here!) so he can do his business behind it. Help! how can we get him to use his toilet and not the floor. Ps we NEVER shout or hit him.

Answers:
Drill 2 little holes in the litter pan in the cage. Then get some yarn or something and tie the pan to the cage, can't move the box then. Try using different litter, maybe he just doesn't like the feel of the litter your using now. Try getting square and corner shaped boxes. Put his poop in the pan and let him smell it there. If he has particular areas he like to go in, put a box there, with newspaper under it. Soak up some urine in newspaper, and put that in the box too. Ferrets are like cats and don't like to go in a dirty box. They also like to go in corners. There's a saying in the ferret community. Put a ferret in a round room and it will never go potty. If you get another ferret ( saw that in a previous question from you) they may teach each other new tricks, litter pan training might be one of them!
What a shame, I thought you wanted help in training the little critter to pick up litter! What a great idea that would be!

My advice woould be to train it like a dog. I trained by dog by laying newspaper all over the floor so that he would associate the paper as the right place to go and after a few weeks reduce the amount of paper on the floor so that it was only 1 sheet. I suppose you could then put this inside the litter tray and eventually it would learn that the litter tray is the place to go!

Hope this works
Take your ferret out of the cage for about 10 minutes and let him play. then put him back in the cage until he goes. then let him out again. and give him a treat..

before you know it you ferret will be going in the litter box and pretending to go just for a treat. give him a treat any ways at least he has the right Idea.

Happy Dooking!
I had a ferrett for 12 years and the way I did it was in the beginning limit his area of play. Give him a small amount of room to explore- with a litter box available to him. Once he starts using it regularly expand his play area and keep doing so until he gets the hint! I also did this with my chinchilla and he is litter trained! They r both awesome pets
