Call the local vets offices, they should have advice for you, also, the humane society or animal control.
Sorry, I'm afraid I can't help directly with your question. Just wanted to congratulate you for caring enough to want to do this.

BUT.

If you have a dog (or cat) and it's been with you for 6 months or more, you could try registering it as a PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog/cat. It would have to be assessed for temperament but they do a great job that really makes a difference to people in all sorts of situations.

I realise that it's not quite what you were asking for but thought it may be of interest.
