Why does my parrot keep plucking its feathers?
Answers:
many different reasons lead birds to pluck their feathers here are some of them:
* illness
* improper diet
* boredom
* excessive dry conditions
* depression
She has many lice..
or worst. she's grooming too much!!
boredom, try to keep it amused, possibly let it out everynow and again, talk to it.
I think birds do this when they are bored or stressed. Take it to the vets im sure they will be able to resolve the problem for you.
I just answered this same Q about 10 minues ago, go back a little bit and look at the sites i wrote in the last post
Its ticklish.. you try not being like that with all those feathers lol
Boredom.!!
You must attend to the problem straight away otherwise it's going to become a life time problem.!!
Parrots get depressed just like humans, get it some toys, when you catch him plucking his feathers reprimand him straight away.!!
Let him out of his cage(cut his wings first) and talk to him also you need to train him to sit on a stick and eventualy on your finger.!!
Parrots are social birds that need to belong in a family pack, don't keep a parrot if you cannot give it the attention that they require, it's not fair on the poor bird.!!
I have an African Grey Parrot that has been with me for 23 years, speaks English and Afrikaans(over 120 words and can swear too) and can do tricks as well.!!
She's my baby girl.!!

Good luck and remember lots of love and attention until he stops plucking.!!
Birds usually do this when they are bored.
Get her some toys, mirrors, chews, anything to keep her occupied.
He's not a feather plucker, but a feather pluckers son.
And he's only plucking feathers 'til the feather plucker comes.
Try saying that 3 times.
if he is in a small cage with no toys or anything to amuse him, if there is no shrubs or not enough room to fly he could be stressed/bored. if this is the case look at alternative housing for him. his feathers will not grow back either, so if none of the above applies take him to a vet.
this is a sign of boredom,you can help this by giving your parrot a mirror or birdy games, get him out more often or im sure if you went into a pet shop they would help or else you could get him a little friend! x he just needs some form of interaction.
if anyone could give a definative answer they would be a millionaire by tonight. The reasons for a bird plucking are many and varied, ranging from low calcium levels, pain, wanting to breed (females pluck their chests), disease, boredom, the presence of nicotine on their feathers (don't smoke around them and wash hands before handling them) to boredom, stress and the presence of toxins in the body.
Go to an avian vet and get blood tests to rule out most of the above before working on diet, enrichment etc.
Plucking is serious and can lead to self mutilation, infections etc.
Contrary to what most inexperienced people seem to think, boredom is the least likely cause of plucking.
stress, thry start stripping when they get stressed see the vet or she'll be bold soon.
Stress and loneliness. talk to him, keep him company, etc.
it's probably bored. try getting it some new toys, or putting it near a window or just change it's location. also, it might be stressed, make sure it has a wall close to its cage because birds like to have a wall so that they can feel safe. it the problem persists, contact a vet.

Because its bored or lonely or both. Give her a cuddle and a love, and tell her she's a pretty bird. Give her a tasty piece of toast. Sje'll love that.
If your bird isnt getting the attention it is used to it will pluck feathers. Also check for mites.
my boyf galah cockatoo used to do that, he took her to the vets and said she didnt have any mites, so she might have a behaviour problem. Does your parrot have enough toys to play with? cos boredom can cause this.
Is your parrot stressed? that does'nt help.
What is your parrots diet like? My boyf now buys Harrisons, its expensive but good - and it stopped his parrot from plucking.
Hope this helps you. :)
lice, boredom take it to the vet
because it is bored and you dont let it out enough, you dont talk to it so when it gets bored it plucks itself. Hope I dont get your address or the rspca will be there you cruel person.
sometimes because they are board i had 1 he plucked all his out took to vet gave me some stuff was right in few months ,let him out of cage more unless you already do.
your parrot is molting all birds molt.they molt between the different seasons(so they molt more than once a year).now it is getting its winter feathers.
so I hoped that helped.
=)
It is bored ,turn on the radio when your out it may help
it could be a number of things -
1. Boredom / stress
2. mites / paracites
3. allergies
4. (if plucking the back above the tail) a blocked gland.
the most likely is to be the first unless it is kept outside or with other birds.
it sounds like stress or boredom if he is caged on his own,also try putting a calcium supplement in his water as that will help, put toys in his cage
