Steve Irwin, the best environmentalist ever?

Such sad news. I loved the way he would get his point accross. Made it exciting. R.I.P

Answers:
I don't know about the best-but certainly one of the best. His work was geniune and inspired-he broke a lot of new ground in terms of documentary style shows. I've enjoyed watching his family grow too. I hope his legacy continues with the next generation.
I know! I found out this morning when I woke up! My heart goes out to their family. I am soo sorry he died and for their loss of a great man.

I don't know the man, but I thought holding his baby while feeding a crock was realy STUPID. I do feel sorry for his family.
i know i couldnt believe it! his family must be broken hearted my thoughts go out to his wife and kids.. he was liked all around the world i reckon! R.I.P steve irwin..
Yes.I think that anyone this news just shock..Gad bless them.
A great man
and an even greater shame
my thoughts are with his family and I hope his work is carried on in his memory
He was really great
sad.but he wasn't the best environmentalist ever!
He wasn't the best environmentalist ever but he bought his topic to the forefront with his outrageous risk taking and bravado. It was just a matter of time before something like this happened though. He faced death every time he did his documentaries and although it came as no real surprise I was still a little shocked and will miss him. He was a legend in his own lifetime and my thoughts go out to his wife and children.
A great Loss.... god bless..
Bloody Puppets
They are all the same, Thunderbirds, Terrahawks, Stingray,
They should all be banned
I was so sad when I found out. His kids are so young. And his shows were great too. R.I.P.

I totally agree but we have had this question about 30,000 times already today xx
i actually didnt believe it when i read it the first time in one of the questions here. may have answered too hastily.

great guy. great message. loved his shows.

rip steve. :((
I agree

He had a way of exiting the viewer and making things very interesting.

Sadly missed.
Certainly the most entertaining, God bless him.
RIP

A bit anti-climactic though, stung by a stingray and possibly died of cardiac arrest?

Most people will be saying "about bloody time!
He certainly brought the subject to the widest possible audience and presented in such an entertaining and enthusiastic way that people actually took notice of him, So i dont know if he could be called the greatest environmentalist ever but he sure must be up there with the best.
I can't believe this happened. I loved that guy and his way of teaching. I'm so heartbroken.. My heart goes out to his Family and friends and to all of those he touched.. I'll miss him so much.
Yeah, Beccy's right we had this question 30,000 times this morning (I woke up at 4 am and bamm! what a shock) but you still want to post an answer even to say, yeah, "me too, I'm really bummed out, too."

I think he had to be one of the best ever. He changed MY mind about a lot of things and I'm kind of a right-wing prick. My son is devastated..
How do you rate an environmentalist? He was an excellent advocate for all creatures great & small and fought to spread education and enlightenment as a means of protecting & preserving nature. Was he in the same class as say, Johnathan Muir? That's not for us to say. His position forced Steve to be a showman at times and , to me, that detracted from his message. Nonetheless, he AlWAYS placed the creatures first, and that was his greatest message. He will be missed.
I think he's the bestest environmentalist ever. he's my personal hero. i've always wanted to meet him personally in his zoo at australia and to tell him personally how great i think he is. i really admire and respect him as a person, always wanted a dad like him. it is such a great loss to the world, such a shame. i wanted to wait till i had enough to travel there to australia to see him personally as i miss out on seeing him when he came to visit Singapore zoo. he really is someone who devoted his whole life to saving and educating the public about the wildlife. his shows are really interesting and i loved watching the events happening on his shows. will really miss this guy. i also think his family is really blessed to have him and know him personally because he is such a great and selfless man. his shows and the person he is will always live in my heart as a living lagacy forever.
It is very sad news and I agree, he had an excellent way of getting the point across, made things very interesting and exciting for kids! He will definitely be missed.
and it was a sting-ray that killed him not all those snakes like a king cobra a stuiped sting-ray but he died what he loved doing which was animals.

R.I.P 1962-2006
i know i thought he was invinceball and he couldnt get killed by animals
I don't know if he was the best, but he damn sure was the coolest!I remember watching him as a little kid fasinated by what he did. He permanently changed my feelings for crocs! I will never forget him. Rest in Peace Steve Irwin!
