I think it has something to do with brain capacity. We would all be in trouble if goldfish ruled the earth as it is well known that they have only a 5 second memory retention. Also I can't imagine a goldfish having the power to flush a human down the loo

We only rule the world cos we have the brains to destroy it and dig it up, we may think we are in charge but who's to say that a colony of ants somewhere thinks they are in charge.
Because goldfish didn't evolve to the sam levels as us. And now- because we have taken over they probably never will! We were unique in the fact that we got so good at feeding and clothing ourselves etc etc that we had time to then develope our brains. Our longer life-spans and ability to walk on land gave us a huge advantage.
