What do animals do to make new individuals to replace them when they die?

They mate of course!
mate - reproduce!

They mate. Then the animal babies grow inside the mummy animals tummy/abdomin and are born when it is time for them to be born. The mum animal feeds the baby animal and eventually it will grow into an adult animal.
If you are asking that question as if it is a horrible thing.

I had a cat pass away of old age recently, but I did not go replace him. Nothing in the world could. But I did the world some good, and adopted a new kitten to raise.

This isn't being selfish or inconsiderate of the the other cat, I miss and love him, but its time to give another animal the chance to live like he did.
Not sure what you mean; all animals reproduce one way or another so usually they ensure that there are offspring to keep the animal, and their species, going on.

Interesting comment though, elephants are the only creatures, apartform humans, who show a regualar distress for the death of a close one, they have been seen to visit relatives remains after they have died, just like us visiting the graveyard.

Well, I could be wrong but I thought mostly they would make more individuals BEFORE they die.
But in the case of the Bush family, maybe they shouldn't have bothered
Ill take a wild guess and say breed. Just like the human animal.
They have sex.
LOL you people are idiots. She/he didn't mean it in that sense.

I think it is a bit weird to use the phrase 'replace' a pet. It is not an item. I don't believe in replacing living things. You can get a new pet once you are ready, but don't just rehome it in order to replace what you have lost.
