What would you do if your lab/cross puppy had just swallowed a splintered bone from the street?
Answers:
Is he choking at all? If he is get him straight to the vet, if he's showing no signs of distress, I would watch him v. carefully over the next 24 hour period, that the bone hasn't punctured anything in his gut etc.. but if he's behaving normally and is as a bright as a button, I wouldn't worry.
DO NOT MAKE HIM SICK! He could damage himself trying to sick it up!
Hope you little doggie is okay. Sending a big HUGX
make him sick or find a vet
Take it to the vet for an x-ray, and some advice.
The bone will probably pass through the dog and be OK. However on the safe side I would ring the vet and ask for advise _- I know its Sunday but if the bone does cause internal damage? If the bone has just been swallowed the vet will be able to make your dog vomit it up safely. I'm sure you will get lots of people recommending you do this on your own but best if done by somebody who knows what they are doing.
take him to a good vet and /or try and induce vomiting. an operation may not be necessary.but do not hang about !
The most danger is being caught in the throat. If it was swallowed, it will digest.
If signs show that is caught in his throat, medical attention is in order.
Straight to the vet. Now. Even if puppy isn't choking, if it's sharp it could cause problems further down the gut. Please take your puppy to the vet.
Please don't make him sick, you could do untold damage. Its not nice for the dog either.
I would ring the vet and ask their advice. They may tell you just to watch him and bring him in if he seems unwell.
My dogs have swallowed splintered bones before and I panicked but they seemed fine. So it doesn't mean anything bad will happen to him, but just to be on the safe side I would call the Vet and ask their advice. Please don't try any DIY methods about making him sick as you could end up with a choking dog!!
DON'T TRY TO MAKE HIM SICK - That could cause damage.
Open his mouth to see if it's stuck in his mouth or throat.
If you can see it, try to gently remove it.
If not, check with your vet - it may pass through but keep a close eye on him.
We would already be on our way to the vet.
Go to the Vet NOW
If he is steel alive he will be just fine.do not do anythink
Check your puppy everyday, for a few weeks if there's a change in your dogs behaviour then take him to the vet to make sure no damage has been made. I'd advise you to visit the vet anyway, it's better to be safe than sorry!
