Friend for my 1 yr old Chihauhua?
I have a 1 year old Chihuahua b*tch and I have the chance to buy a miniature daschund in January and I would like my Chi to have a companion to play and cuddle up with.
Anyone bought a new pup into thier home when they already had a dog? How did it go?
Don't bother posting any "rat dog" etc comments. And no i DO NOT put my Chi in a hand bag either!!
Also, I'm not going for particular breeds to be flash, they are just breeds I am fond of . . . . I'm from a tiny Island in the Channel Islands to so not many (no) dog rescue centres here either!

I have a daschund and six months ago we adopted a Chihauhua. They get along as if they were brothers. They are wonderful together. Play together and keep each other company. Henry is the best gift I could have ever given my Chico. Do it, you won't regret it!
I also have a 1 year old chihuahua, and recently brought home new chihuahua puppy. The puppy is from the same parents as my 1 yr old.
At first, my dog didn't want anything to do with the puppy, and I started to feel bad, but it's been about a week now, and they are starting to get used to one another. They play fight, but haven't tried to hurt one another. They are starting to lay with each other, lick each other, etc.
It just takes time. Make sure to socialize them alot, and make sure you pay the same, if not more attention to your 1 yr old. Make sure she knows that you still love her and that things won't change.

I think it's a great idea to introduce a new puppy as long as you have the time to train it the same.I have a 3yr old jrt x and a 10 month old lab x pup.we have experienced no problems with them although all dogs are different,the 1st day we brang our pup home we kept our old dog on a lead when introducing them and supervised them both constantly for the 1st few days just to be save.good luck.
ive got a 5yr old chi and i bought a 8wk pomeranian pup a month ago. at first my chi hated him but shes quite a mardy dog anyway, she likes all the attention so she resented the pom quite alot, at first she would not let him near her but now they snuggle up to each other and he keeps her warm at night, we made sure she still felt like top dog as this is important, now i think she likes the company so im glad i got him
