Can i shower my dog outside in cold water?

i know it sounds stupid, i was just wondering if my 1 year old black lab would be too cold! i always bath him indoors in warm water but when he shakes he plasters my entire house in black hair!

Hey Susie,

Was wondering if the training tips i gave you helped, is puppy less giddy and training easier?

Ok answer to this question is this, yes you can wash puppy outside in cold water if you want him to smell funky. You think i'm kidding try it. Mostly what happens is one the dog shampoo you buy in stores works wellonly if you activate it with warm water, then on top of that wet puppy outside, he guaranteed to get covered in more dust, dirt and grime. Best answer is washing inside, in the bathtub, close bathroom door bring in a half dozen towels and a hair dryer, once puppy is washed, towel dry him in tub, i usually climb in tub with my pooches, while wearing a bathing suit. then once he's towel dried i let them out of the tub and i finish totally drying them with a hair dryer. Only once the dogs are totally dry do i let them out of the bathroom, this way i have only my bathroom to clean up, (not so much fur to clean up) and two they don't end up smelling funky.

If the bathroom id totally off limits, maybe contacting your local petstore to find out where there is a dog grooming salon for a bath might be a good idea, it costs me about $30 per dog to be washed, this included bath, drying, brushing, claws clipped, teeth washed and cleaning of the ears. A real good deal, when you consider i have some seriously furry beasts!

Other idea is google your area and look for doggy car washes. I know it sounds wierd but these self serve doggy bath places are springing up all over the place, i first saw one in Santander Spain, now they are all over the place here in Vegas. I hear they cost about $5 a go, it might be worth checking out, least that way someone else does the cleaning up after your puppy!
no it needs to be warm water not to hot tho
it can't be in cold water. you need to give him warm water.
Sure, you can shower him outdoors, if the weather is warm. You might try connecting a hose to your inside water faucet, (they make attachments) and bathing him in warm water, since he's accustomed to it being nice and warm. He's a water dog and should welcome a nice outdoor shower.
No, warm water is a lot better
as long as you dry him well and allow him to warm up inside, after all dogs will swim in rivers when its cold too.. clearly if its a blizzard outside he wont be happy with you;)
The water HAS to be warm. Do you like to shower in freezing cold water?
No he/she getting sickkkkkkkk
Sure, why not? If it's warm out - I've always washed dogs outside - except for winter (in New England we deal w/bad winters). Especially if it's sunny out they like it - just don't let your dog roll in the grass - it would all be for not!
we used to do it to our doggies all the time.
would you take a cold shower outside What a dumb question
yea duh i do it all the time and hes fine
Only if it is a warm day out, and make sure to dry your dog quickly with plenty of towels. Also, labs were bred to swim in coldr water, this would not be appropriate for, say, a greyhound. It would still be better to bathe your lab indoors and then wrap him in an old towel or blanket, lead him on leash through the house, then remove it outside and let him shake there.
well you can do it . but honestly its really rude and they tend to become afraid of the hose if you do that . i know ive done it and regreted it. good luck.
unless its hot outside then sure you can as long as the water isnt freezing so be careful coz dogs can get sick too and seeing as yours is only one be even more careful coz the pups and older dogs can get sick quicker than usual.
yes no prb with that as long as you dry her/him off afterwards, you let them swim in rivers and lochs etc and it doesn't do them any harm
If you do, and your dog is male, I feel bad for him. He'll suffer some terrible shrinkage!

If you want to wash your dog outside, I find a plastic "kiddie pool" (not an inflateable one) works best. I can fill it up in a sunny area, and then walk away from it for an hour while I get some other stuff taken care of. When I come back to it, the water is nice and warm. At that point, I bring the dog in there with the shampoo, and go to work.
I don't think that it would be a good idea. You could do it but your dog wouldn't like it very much. Just think, if you were a dog, would you like it? I always bathe my dog indoors. My dog has black hair and he is part black lab. Yes he does shake and his hair gets all over but you could always clean it up. Thats what I do. I hope this helps you.
are you crazy?! would you shower yourself outside in cold water?
yeah, you can shower your dog in cold water, but my suggestion is you had best aks him b4 you are performing it.
Depends on the outside temp. If you can be outside without a jacket, then you could bath your dog outside. If the water is too cold for you to put your hands in to bathe your dog, then its probably too cold to bathe them in. Of course, if your dog is sick already - then you shouldn't be bathing them at all unless the vet gives you directions to do so.
Outside, yes. Cold water, no. It's not a nice feeling for him, and it won't actually get him clean- have you ever tried washing your hair in cold water? Makes it feel greasy. Bathe him inside, and make sure you dry him before you let him out of the bathroom. A few good rubs with a thick towel should do it. Don't get any water in his ears, that'll stop him shaking so much.
I don't have a hose pipe but I regularly chase my 3 year old boxer around the garden with a bucket of cold water. He swims in the river, so I don't see why not! Obviously not such a good idea in winter.
He'll probably love it. As long as its not freezing outside. I do mine in the basement if its cold out.

I have one of the short just handle leads that I use to bathe mine outside.
Get a baby, you can play selfish games with that instead.
Why have you got a dog?
Im surprised you dont varnish its claws and dye its hair.
Do you pick your dog mess up or let other people step in it?
If its not used to cold water you may give it a fever, if its an energetic dog it will soon run the cold off, if it dont like it it will not co-operate.
Use head and shoulders, and dove soap. Make sure it has a massage after and some colonic irrigation.
Clue: Has he never been out in the rain before?
Yes, just pick a nice warm day to do it. He'll have fun - and you'll have a cleaner house.

Our dogs loved to chase the water from the hose - freezing cold & getting soaked.

If he'll happily swim in a cold river or pond - a few minutes getting showered won't do him any harm!
well perhaps no because he might get colds
if had finished in bathing it you must drag him fast out of the house so that it could have no chance to wiggle around your house to scatter lots of black hairs that may also cause an asthma
Your body temp is 98.6. A dog's temp is 101-102. My 64 degree cold water would feel a whole lot colder to a dog then to me. I wouldn't want a bath in 64 degree water and neither does he.
as long as it's not too cold
no always warm water get something to put him in put in some cold water boil some hot water mix it togther and make sure its not too hot or too cold
no, it won't hurt him but only do it in hot weather many dogs love playing with the hose and won't mind and Labs are usually one of those, they are water dogs that was what they were breed for.

To all the people that think it is cruel to wash them outside if it is hot weather you are idiots that don't know about dogs.
