How long until i can walk my dog, he has just has his 2nd vaccination?
Answers:
Your puppy should not be in the presence of any other dogs or puppies, be taken to dog parks, pet stores, or in any areas where other dogs have been until two weeks after he completes his vaccination schedule and is fully protected.
No reason not to walk him. He may not feel like it..let him be the judge.
Should be about 2 weeks.
Congratulations on your new puppy! I have a boxer too and he is just brilliant!
I would give it a few weeks at least. When he reaches twelve weeks he should only really be going out for 10 minutes, 15 at most, once or twice a day. Otherwise he will get tired and could become poorly.
I think he will be fine if you walk him. Start out slow and see how he keeps up, if he starts lagging go back and try another short walk later. I don't think he will have any problems though. My pups never had any after their shots.
All vacc except rabies are just under the skin (sub-q) so no restrictions on walking would be necessary. Even with rabies, walking is good, just might be harder to convince the pup of that.
I would follow your vet's advice and wait until the period he/she stated has elapsed remember you will have the wee fella for many years to come. I know what is like as our 2nd dog is only 5 months and it was torture waiting to get him out and about.
The puppy will have some protection from his first vaccination. However this is insufficient to give immunity to disease.
It will take another couple of weeks for him to respond to the second shot. By then he will have enough antibody to fight off infection.
In some areas vets recommend a third shot for Parvovirus.
The variations in advice here are bewildering. It is perhaps important to realise that vaccination protocols differ in different parts of the world. Here in the UK most puppies are vaccinated twice - at about 8 and 10 weeks of age. In some large breeds e.g. Doberman Pinschers we recommend a third shot. This is partly because immunity derived from the mother will interfere with the vaccine. Extra shots are also used in areas where Parvovirus is a problem. In the UK we rarely use a 4 shot regime.
The level of immunity does increase with subsequent doses of vaccine. That's why boosters are called boosters - they boost the level of immunity by increasing the amount of antibody in the blood.
It is a valid point that young puppies shouldnt be walked too far.
(Incidentally vet school in the UK takes 5 years but we can take extra courses.)
I really would wait for the third.
Diseases are transmitted more in high volume dog areas. Stay away from petstores, dog parks and be sure to hold your puppy at the vet (sick dogs go to the vet)
If you are walking just on your street where you see that there aren't other sickly animals you should be fine. If you have clorox wipes wipe his paws off incase he did step in something so he won't lick any viruses off of his paws.
I would give 48 hrs for the second vaccine to really get into the bloodstream. The first vaccine is the one that usually doesn't take. You have a better chance of the second being effective than the first. And the third better than the second. This is why there is a series of usually four shots. By the time the fourth is given the mothers antibodies should be out of the puppies sytem for the vaccine to work. The mothers antibodies attack the vaccine as a foreign substance in the puppy.
They give the earlier shots because its not been confirmed exactly how long it takes for the mothers antibodies to leave the puppy. In case it leaves one puppy earlier than another you want the shot to protect it.

Twin Chicken your never going to get out of vet school giving bogus advice. I like that your in vet school for 6 years today but the other day you were a vet for 20 years. Please quit screwing around You haven't got a clue so do not tempt someone to take your ignorant advice. People are asking questions because they care about their pet. There are enough ignorant answers on here and for you to falsify the fact you have any vet experience or animals experience in general is completely deceitful and could cost the life of someones pet.
he needs one more shot.. if he just got his second at 10 weeks that means his first was at 6 weeks or sooner so it doesnt count. he will need a third booster and you can walk him 3 days after that.
in the mean time you should be starting to train him a bit in your back yard - 10 weeks is really young, most people dont start until 12 weeks
You can walk him at anytime, just be careful with the area that he got the shot because it might be sore for a half a day or so.
It's ok to walk your puppy now, but you shouldn't be taking him to dog parks yet, just take him around your neighborhood.
I AM NOT A VET TO START OFF WITH. i have always waited until my dogs had all their shot b4 taking them out, i own 4 dogs, the youngest IS just 9 months old which i delivered its better to be safe then sorry plus you can ask your vet what he/ she thinks GOOD LUCK
Each shot does not add to the immune system. The mother's antibioties protect the pup in the beginning. Vets do not know when the mom's antibioties will wear off so they give a series of puppy shots to try and catch the time when they are no longer protected by mom's milk. A vaccine given 3 days before the mom's antibioties wear off is of no value and is rejected by the body. So keep that pup only in your yard until all the vaccines are given and 2 wks beyond. Just because the vaccine was given doesn't mean that it has had time to circulate through the body and trigger the immune system.
u should wait until his last vaccine... we are a home breeder and we recommend that you dont expose your puppy to to many dog germs. puppies are sensitive to dog bacteria . everyone poops and scoops but you can get every crumb . those crumbs hold alot of bacteria... its ok to take him out just dont take him to where there are alot of dogs. better to be safe then sorry.
A week after his second jab. But until then you can carry him around to socialise him.
you can start to wlk him after he gets his last set of shots which is about when he turns 20 wks. you want to make sure that when you do take him out for a walk that he has had all his shots incuding the rabies . get the rabies done when you get his last set. after that you can walk him everyday. you just don't want to take any chances and him get sick or get any thing. i breed goldens and they don't go out till they have had their last set with the rabies. good luck on your new boxer pup.
2 weeks
