Hi i have a cocker spaniel that could be four weeks pregnant is it normal not to show at this stage yet?

you need to take her to a vet during pregnancy just like a woman goes to antenatal. The vet can do a scan and check that everything is alright. I do hope that you had her PRA tested before you decided to breed from her. A responsible owner would.I do wonder why you imagine you are responsible given that you haven't taken her to a vet and presumable have not been feeding and adding supplements which is needed for pregnant b1tches. She should be fed high protein several meals a day, plus vitamin supplements and possible some calcium to help the pups grow properly. An irresponsible owner whould get her mated, then do nothing different and let her get on with it all on her own including the whelping. Such an owner would not have health screening done and will have done no reading up about caring for a pregnant b1tch and learning what happens during whelping and what to look for when things may be going wrong. Such an owner will not have taken her to the vet for a check up, nor notify the vet of the date she is due to whelp so that he will know that he may be needed.

When a dog shows, is different every time. My family's dog got pregnant twice, and the 2nd time, she didn't show at all (we didn't know she was pregnant, until we heard puppies whining. lol) If you suspect she is pregnant, start feeding her puppy food (mixed with her normal food) and/or cook up some chicken & rice for her. (It's good for pregnant dogs).
You can always talk to a vet, and they can determine if your dog is pregnant or not.

I think it is normal she might get alot bigger in the end, you still have 5 weeks to go and in a couple of weeks or maybe even now a vet can feel if there is puppies.

It is very normal some dogs don't show at all till the end but it really depends on how many and what size it will be best to bring her to a vet between her 45-50th day then you will be sure if she is and how many andabout what size.I know this becouse I show dogs and the German Shepherd whas bred and we will find out no tues. how many.
hi Claire b,a pregnant female will actually not start to show in pregnancy until about 6weeks,a vet could determine whether she's pregnant about 4 or 5 weeks after the mating.my own female is 3yrs old and is having a phantom pregnancy she to is very greedy,have you thought it could be a phantom pregnancy?
They usually do not start showing until 3-4 weeks before pups are due, so you may have a couple of weeks to go before she will show. Good luck.
y mothers min-pin started to show at about 8 weeks.
I would suggest feeding her more as she will need more food now. and remember when the pups are born to carry on feeding her more. My mums min-pin gets a small meal every 2 hours through the day at the moment to keep everything going.
Hi-my Lurcher had pups 4 weeks ago and she didnt show at all till the 7th week and rapidly expanded at the very end. She managed to conceal 10 pups from us in those first 7 weeks so I think anything is possible.
I have to agree with what most other people say about upping her food, but remember it is also about quality and not just quantity. Good luck!
