Does anyone know anything about bone-degeneration in dogs?

Unfortunately, just like elderly humans, dogs can suffer from osteoarthritis too. And just like humans, there are medications that your vet can prescribe to help make her more comfortable. Anti-inflammatories and mild pain medicines can ease her pain. Also limiting the amount of strain she puts on the joint/leg can help. Building ramps where there are steps eases the pressure on the leg. Most dogs will minimize their own activity levels to accomodate their arthritis but some dogs (my old german shepherd) don't seem to realize what is best for them :) You can also buy special dog food for elderly dogs that contain glucosamine and chondroitin and they can sometimes help ease the symptoms too. Sometimes we have to step in and say "Sorry, you can't do that or you will pay for it later!" Here is an article that may help give you some tips:)

osteoporosis give him calcium
Greyhound and Great Danes St Bernards are all know for having bone problems Greyhounds because of the running and slim bone structure The other 2 because of their size. Sadly very little can be done Calcuim helps while growing up will make little help now. all you can do now is make him comfortable as possible no long walks love and affection, your vet may be able to perscribe pain killers but thats about it. In the end there may be only the other option left to stop the pain talk to your vet.
