How do I get Boas to mate?
We have a pair of fully grown Boas one male one female. We have had the female for 6 years and since she was 50cm long, she is now 12ft. We have had the male for 2yrs and he is now 11ft. I would like to mate them but have failed on several occasions as she rejects him. Anyone have any good strategies?

11 feet sounds kind of long for a 2 year old boa..but okay, I'll play. Around October stop feeding them. In November drop the females ambient cage temperature by about 5 degrees. Shoot for 75f at night and 80-82f during the day. Lower the humidity and decrease the number of "daylight hours" by several hours and add the male to the females cage. If you have a sexual pair (male and a female) copulation should begin soon after. The key is to just leave them alone. Sometimes the male will court the female for many weeks before the female ovulates. If the male gets her..there will be at least two noticable swellings, possibly three. The first is pre-ovualtion. This is when the fat follicles begin situating themselves. The succeeding swelling are ovulation..usually one for each ovary. After the final swelling, the female will go into a very long shed cycle. I have seen this last as long as 20 days and a short as 9. Once she goes into that shed cycle, raise the ambient temperature to 85f and give her a hot spot at all times around 97f. At this time the male should be removed from the enclosure. The female will utilze the basking spot more at the beginning of gestation and less toward the end. Gestation usually lasts about 105-115 days after the post ovulation shed. Most gravid females will eat during their pregnancy but meals should be 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the normal prey, and feeding should stop all together 6 weeks before the anticipated parturation. Handling should also stop 6 weeks prior to birth...as it can provoke a pre-mature birth. Good luck.

. . . tie their tails together and leave them to it . . .
Put them in a tank and let nature take its course.
Would you like to be plonked in a situation with a random stranger and be expected to perform??
Tech your female dog to get F@ucked by the male dog by demonstrating it yourself.
Give him a good bath and a little perfume. Perhaps a viagra?
first have a vet check and make sure you have a pair.(ive been mistaken before) then quit watching!! sounds strange but true!!
The best way to get them interested in each other is to keep them each sex alone for several months a year. I think, you can have the best effort if you only bring them together once or twice a year for about three weeks. With this method you should get Boa-Babies.
I think e.g. March and/or September are good choices for bringing the sexes together.
Put lippy on the female and some eyeshadow plus some fm clothes and let them go for it. You may need to give the male some snake picture books to get him thinking:)
Boa breeding is a year-long process, not something you do on a whim. You may also want to get a second opinion on the snakes' gender; you may have 2 females which would explain why they won't breed.
You have to start by giving both boas (in separate cages) a 'summer' season. Do this by gradually increasing the length of their day and the temperature in their cages until you have very long 12-14 hour days with a daytime high temperature of at least 105-110 in the hot spot ONLY (don't forget to give them a cool side!) This process should start in August, and you should reach your highest temperatures by November. During this time, feed your female boa heavily (every time she defecates or every 10 days, whichever is longest) and your male sparingly (once a month or less). Keep up this feeding schedule until the end of December.
In November, start cooling them back down, gradually. Keep going down until (by the end of December) your daytime high is no more than 75 degrees. Some breeders suggest daily misting of the cages during the cool-down phase.
Stop feeding both snakes completely at this point.
At the end of December or early January, introduce the male into the female's cage for about 3 days. Then remove him. Wait about 2 weeks, and do it again, for 3 more days. Remove him. Do this up to 4 times, always for no more than 3 days, and keeping them at 75 degrees. After you separate them for the last time, you can feed both snakes. You can also begin to warm them back up to their normal temperatures.
both snakes should be fit and healthy get them checked first. At the start of September the boas should go through a cooling stage of about a 5 degree temp drop and day light hours should be reduced to simulate the time of year.also do not feed your Boas during this period and should not be fed until after ovulation whether succesful or failure, this is usually between 2-5 months which is why they need to be healthy.Introduce the male 1 week after the females last fed, leave the male with the female for about 2-3 days provided they dont eat each other, remove the male for 2-3 weeks then put him back for another 2-3 days, you can do this 3-5 times in a season,if the male tries to "ride"the back of the female this is normal and the female may look ennoyed and try to get him off this is also normal.
If succesfull when your female is near to giving birth to her live young you can put a mesh cage in the viv so the babies can go in there and not get crushed by mum.You will also get slugs or unfertilised eggs these are a yellowy colour and are also normal.
This is very basic and you should do alot more research into breeding"The Boa Constrictor Manual" by Philippe De Vosjoli.is very good.there are also alot of good websites avaliable, good luck.
