I don't think it's a problem my cat does the same thing, the vet told me it's a normal thing if she bites and never use hands or feet as play objects, this will send the wrong message and when she starts bitting a quick hissing sound may deter her. If it does not, quickly and quietly leave the area so that she is left alone. Often she will quickly learn that her behavior resulted in the loss of social interaction. Harsh words or physical reprimands are inappropriate since they may cause fear, anxiety or aggressive responses all of which are undesirable.
cats are terrible. get rid of it
I think he is normal my cat always gets my feet too especially when im in bed he jumps on the duvet
Could be possessed!?! Get him to a vet or to a priest!
you should come up to his face and ask him.
seriously.
I had that problem with my cat too.
maybe he needs to be trained, seek advice from a professional
my mums cat does the same thing, Its an affection thing. Weird and unusual but he does love you and this is his way of showing it.
Simply, he doesn't want to be held or pet, at least not in the manner you're doing it. Try to make friends by giving him treats (no milk because that gives them tummy problems, and not so many that he gets fat) and sweet talk. It may be that he'll never be cuddly and that's just his personality.

My cat used to attack our feet when he wanted something, was angry about something (like fussing at him), or when he was feeling frisky. We'd spray him with water and he'd go away to sulk, but eventually learned to stop and just whine when he wanted something.
My female cats did this also. But they would also sit on my lap, sleep with me and cuddle. I think it has a lot to do with being a female and being protective of themselves. Also where they were born, etc. My male cat is not mean at all and is also, affectionate..
Was he declawed? Sometimes when they are they resort to biting as their only means of defense.

Are you trying to grab him while hes napping or eating? Could you be holding him in a way he feels vulnerable (like belly up)? Could you be hurting him the way your holding him unintentionally? Did you pick him up from a shelter (could have been abused)?

Maybe he just doesn't want to be bothered at that point in time. Let him come to you when he wants attention. Cats are pretty independent, some more then others.
Sometimes cats like to be alone especial when there resting.
When they go to you its a greeting.
The cat we have right now is the nastiest cat I've ever met. I have always loved to have cats around but this one is just mean. It tries to get away whenever it is picked up. It willl sit next to, but not on us. When I hold it up and insist it pays attention to me, it slaps me in the face! With claws IN, so I know she is just warning me. I think her mother did not socialise her early enough or something.
Our Snakie (the cat) came as an extra after a domestic break-up.
But shes great, bits me regular.
But I know shes happy.
Have a goodlife.
Cheers.
you havea gemlin too?! my cat used to be like that towards me before i left for college. now whenever i'm home he's very cuddly. a lot of cats don't like to be given affection on terms that aren't there own. they are very fincky independant animals. he probably just doesn't want to be cuddled at that moment. let him decide to come jump on your lap and then give him attention, but if his tail starts to twitch, leave him alone! unlike dogs, cats wag their tail when they're hunting, or are starting to get meeved. if he doesn't bite you hard, they're more like little nibble, it could be an affecition thing. my cat sometimes trys to chew on my fingers when i'm petting him, but he's a weird puffball! ^-^ and if you're moving your feet, he's probably attacking them for that sole reason! most cats do that, especially when you're sleeping!
Is he a kitten? Usually kittens don't know their boundaries. As they get older and mature they get sweeter. My cat was the devil as a kitten. She would pounce on my chest in the middle of the night and scare the heck out of me. She would bite too, but now she is so loyal, but she now only loves and trusts me. If your cat is full grown then it is possible someone was mean to her or abused her. My old roommates boyfriend was really rough on my poor kitty so she became afraid of everyone except me.
If she is a kitten she is playing while biting you. If she was trying to be mean she would hiss and most likely stay away from you. Just be patient and as she grows she will quit biting. But until then just tell her NO and ignore her so that she will know that you are not happy with her. Cats are very smart.
Good luck.
You've overfed him so he's fat and grumpy. Imagine having a stuffed belly and then getting picked up round the middle? Not on your nelly, lady.

He obviously hates you, get over it. Give him to someone who will take better care of him.
its the kind of love
Not a stupid question at all, we got two boy cats at 6months old about 5 years ago. They are the first pets I ever had so didn't know what to expect so when they bit me I was annoyed & thought they hated me until a good friend who is a very experienced cat owner explained that a 'nip' is a form of affection.
By nip I mean the cat getting your skin & holding it in his teeth, not like taking a bite out of a steak !!

Now I know what to expect it doesn't bother me even though when one of them does it he does it quite hard but not in an aggressive way. Could this be what your cat is doing ?

Alternatively I have read that sometimes when a cat has had enough of petting it might bite as it is overstimulated, this has happened once or twice with my other cat but is much different from a nip & happens a lot quicker & more like an 'attack' on those occasions I just leave him well alone for a while.. re holding him, it is always better to let them come to you than bug them, they like to make their own decisions !

What can I say if my cat is so cute and lovely and especially gentle from birth? leave him/her alone for a short while and see if s/he is still mean. sometimes my dog stops being choosy about food after I stop giving him even simple food for a while. It might sound like What A Cruel Animal Lover! But yeah, if I love my son so much, I won't let him play or do everything he wants like checking Sex Website on Internet or playing Video Game so much or eat lots of chocolats and not meal, bla bla bla
Ha ha (sorry) typical male just being his lovely self!
I have seen this before. My friends 3 cats used to be just like that, so I think its instinct in some way. If you tried to pet them, they would attack your hand.

I got my little ones when they were just kittens, and of course they perceive both our hands and feet as objects which are for them to play, chase and bite. Although they still attack my feet once in a while (I clip their claw regularly), I had to train them to made sure that they knew that my hands were not a toy, and only for the purpose of providing love affection, feeding them and to take care of them. I think it may be possible to train the cat, I read a couple of books on this when I got the cats. Also, cats seem to have different personalities, but I think training has a lot to do with it too. My cats are sooo gentle and affectionate, also unafraid of just about anything.
Is the bite one that breaks/dents the skin or can you just feel the pressure.
If it is the latter, they are love bites and are showing affection. My male Burmese does that specially when I rub him around his chin and neck in a certain spot. He also licks me if he can.
If it is the former, he doesn't like what you are doing.
You say he is a tubby cat. Perhaps if you put him in a diet (check with vet) his mood will lighten. I know of a fat cat that was a real grump until he lost weight.

The feet biting can be a game. If he really hurts, carry a spray bottle filled with water and say NO and spray him when he attacks your toes.
All cats are different, weve got two Tabbys,
One of them you can cuddle and kiss and she sleeps on our bed but the other one on dear No
she doesnt do kissing ,there all different and your's does'nt seem like the cuddlely type.
Some cats are just like that.
I know this one indoor cat, poor thing has nothing to hunt.

You can pet him and he likes it, then all of a sudden he'll want to play bite and scratch.
Normally when cats do this its because they are playing or they simply dont want to be petted, My other two cats have a habit of trying to bite when they dont want attention. Its just they way the cat is.
It could be a sign of feeling threatened as you are MUCH bigger than him. Try getting down to his level and slowly putting your hand out near him- not too close so he knows you won't hurt him. Gradually move your hand nearer till you can touch him. Eventually you might be able to stroke his paw or body. But he might just just be naturally aggressive if so seek professional help if possible to see if he can be trained. Could be solved though so persevere as cats are wonderful creatures. Good luck :-)
