Why has my 2 year old kitten started to bite his fur out when grooming?
He is an indoor cat but my sister-in-law has a kitten that has recently caught fleas (he is an outdoor cat) - is it possible that we could have carried them from her house back to our cat?
Answers:
Even if your cat is an indoor cat he still needs flea treatment, worming and vaccinations - especially if you are in contact with other cats.
It could be a skin irritation or a behavioural problem, please get him looked at by a vet. If its ringworm or scabies you can catch it too.
He has fleas or mange!
Yes and now you'll be lucky if you ever get rid of them.
I think all cats bite their fur when they're cleaning themselves, it's to get the knots out.
All cats I know do it. But your cat could have fleas aswell, take him to the vets to check.
That is possible. You need to comb through the cat and look for fleas. If he has them then get some Advantage for him right away so that your house doesn't get infested with those nasty creatures. I mean time is of the essence as they reproduce like wildfire.
Put a flea collar in your vacuum cleaner bag so that any fleas or eggs that are vacuumed up will die in the bag.
quite possible!

it is possible that your kitten has fleas. he is biting out his fur to try to relieve the itch.
he is grooming to get rid of itches, fleas and tangles. Use frontline -go to the vet for some asap as he could get other problems
well he sounds like he either scratching because he has fleas or he does it because he is nervous or scared of the groomer its stress or he could have a skin rash. It happens. Get a flea collar or the flea shampoo.
