Hip & eye tests?

when a dog gets hip & eye test do you get a certificate?and is it a certificate that lasts for life or do you have to get the tests every now & again?

Answers:
OFA and PennHip x-rays on hips & elbows are good for life. Eye tests need to be conducted yearly particualrly in breeds that are prone to eye problems, such as Labs, Goldens, Collies, Shelties, etc.

And yes you do get a certificate.
I think its lasts for life but ur dog willl get checked by a vet if u request it every year or 2.
Your dogs eyes and hips should be checked every year at their yearly exam. You don't get a certificate or anything though..
Is this for a purebred?
OFA (hips & elbows) dogs need to be at least 24 month. Only needs to be done once.

This link will tell you about CERF

Thank you for testing your dog.
OFA is short for the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. This an organization does testing on canine hips and elbows for specific genetic defects like hip dyslplasia. Your local veterinarian will know how to register your dog's hips.

CERF is short for Canine Eye Registration Foundation. This is organization does testing for specific canine genetic defects involving the eyes, like Canine Retinal Atrophy.

A local ACVO (American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists) certified Ophthalmologist could help you in getting your dog's eyes certified. If you have any detailed questions or if you want to find a local Ophthalmologist, you should contact CERF.

You do receive registration numbers and the tests are good for life. You may also want to look at testing for Von Willenbrands Disease if it is present in the breed.
no, you don't get a certificate, and pups cannot be cleared - but the parents should be
The results need to be sent in for certification.

Eyes are done every year.

Hips are once, but the dog has to be over 2, I believe (hips are not a problem in my breed)
Ofa your vet will take the x-rays and they are then sent to the OFA for a rating. The dog must be two years old and this rating is good for the life of the dog and only done once and yes you get papers to prove you have had it done.
CERF is done on the eyes and it needs to be done every year.
Some other tests depending on what thye are are done once and that is all that is needed.
Like for luxating patellas or Von Willdibrands (bleeding disorder) The tests you need to do depends on the breed ofdog you have.
the hip scores are for life and you get a certificate. The eye test (PRA) are done yearly and you will get a clear certificate too.
If you submit the hip x-rays to OFA you will get a certificate which is good for life.

The CERF certificate is good for one year.

I believe a gonioscopy is a "good for life" test, but I'm not aware of a certificate for it.
