My 18 month old cat loses its voice for long periods why is this?

Answers:
Quite normal, its like purring or meowing, they do it when they want to.
My cat is 14, the best cat ever!

When he was young he was nice and quiet, the strong silent type, now he does not shut up
Its not actually natural for cats to make noises inside the range of human hearing. He's probaby fine but only making noises other cats can hear. Try talking to him more (especially at dinner time).
So if he does meow at you, you can be sure that its definitely for your benefit!
my cat meowed a lot when he was in the vet's office then the next day his voice was gone. it was just cuz he was using it more than usual. nothing's wrong unless kitty starts acting funny.
it has nothing to say..i have one cat who i never heard meow or purr
Needs to see a vet as it could be something serious in it's throat.
maybe he just doesn't want to say anything! But you could get him checked out at the vet to be sure
Please dont worry hunny ask the vet for throat losenges for your cat or mabey your cat isnt drinking enough and its throat is all dry!keep an eye on your cat and if it gets worse call the vet for a checkup!

see ya and good luck Rachelxxx
