Does Your Dog Know Its Name?

I have 2 dogs called Zak and Millie.
Zak gets called (and answers to) Zak, Shitbags, Mr McWuff and baby boy.
Millie gets called (and answers to) Millie, Millie Boo Boos, Boo Boos and baby girl.
I read in a book once that a dog trainer proved that a man's dog thought it was called 'no' because that was what its owner said to it all the time.
Does anyone else out there call their dogs (or any other animals) by names that aren't their own?

Answers:
My dog answers to his name, Scrappy.

He also answers to "Mr Doo", "Scrap", "Monsieur Le Scrap", "Little Man", "Foolbrain" and "Scrapster".
Nope. I just call my dog Paris or Paris Marie.. and the other is Jedidiah and he'll answer to Jed. There's not much of a difference though.
my pup is named lola we also call her princess, lolita, stinker, baby she answers to all of them
My rabbits know their names, Ben and Milky. Seriously!
Heck yeah. Our dog is alternately "Punkin-butt" or "Screwball" depending, as well as "Puppy girl" and a wide variety of other nicknames.

She doesn't answer to any of them. Or to her "given" name, either. Unless there's food involved. ;)
yes. my dog is called benjamin
he answers to benji ^_^
my dogs called tipsy but responds to damn quite alot.
My dog would have you believe that she knows her name but she knows the word "Walkies" a lot better.
two of my dogs have very similar sounding names, but they never fail to respond correctly.. One I call Fay, and one I call Tay..It surprises me that they know the difference..I'm the one that gets confused! lol

My little dog is named Bitte, and responds to Fluffy-Butt, Sweety, and Are Ya Coming.
I used to call mine 'bear' when his name was tinley
i have a black lab her name is blue but she also answers to baby girl
My dog, Riley, answers to "Riley". He knows what "NO" means, and he knows it's not his name.
yes barney barnicles
I'm not sure if it's there name they know or the sound of your voice. We think our beagle hound can speak English. Every time we ask it to do something it reacts most of the time like we want. When we say Pokey his head turns and he acknowledges we want him. Our baby boy the Rot acknowledges us when we call him Bandit but only answers if he wants to. We are still working with him to get him to obey our commands. I think mostly it's the sound of your voice but thats only my opinion.
my dog deaf so you can shout what you like and still get no reply
Both my dogs know their names and also come when they are called gorgeous, or my little man, our cat thinks she is called beautiful, even though her name is Bitz.
I have 2dogs called bertha and wolfie, Bertha is a mental dog and she answers to the name Bertha, Bertie and Berta. Wolfie is a bit more reserved and answers to the name Wolf or wolfie oh and both come when you shout breakfast or walkies!
My dog is called Zak too but he also answers to Stinky
Oh Yeah!

Bear is the boy, freak, and comes if you speak to him.
Bessie is the old lady, fog horn (She is big a growls)
Mack is Mackie doo and the dog. (He is a perfect dog)
Cubby is Booger and baby boy. He's three but he was the last boy in the house
Lillie is lue lue and baby girl. She is two and the baby of the bunch

Lillie actually like Lue lue better than Lillie, and Cubby likes booger bater than cubby.

The cat comes to his name Harley and lover bug
Yeah my Frances answers to all his names such as: Frannie, Frannie Pan, Senior Puppy, Gassy a s s,Frankie, Franco, Poopy, Pooper dog, Baby, etc

So do all my cats. I have three cats and they have multiple nicknames and they know them all.

Impressive eh? hehe.
I call my dog Dino (his name), Deener, little man, or little lover (because he's always giving kisses) and he answers to all of them. My other dog Missy answers to her name, Misser, and Miss. And the other dog, Louie, answers to his name, Lou, or bubbas.
Don't have dogs at the moment but my horse comes to its name.also comes to quite a few other names that I'm to polite to mention. I think most animals respond because they recognize your voice and tone of voice than because they know their names.
I have four dogs and they all know their names and nicknames individually :o)
Yep, my dog is called Oliver and answers to Oliver, Ollie, Ols, Darling, Sweetie, Sweetheart, Babes and Baby.

He also knows the names of all the members of the family, e.g.
"Where's Daddy Ollie?"
*Ollie looks at my dad*

lol
no, i don't call them multiple names, if i did the training we are doing would not work. our dogs know their names.
I think they know their names, but if I call one, but not the other, she comes to check out why she wasn't invited. I think they respond to the tone of voice. Either come if I'm yelling.
lol yeh! my dog's called tuppy, and she'll answer to Tuppy, fluppence, poo-face, stinky and lots of other names! :-p
yes I called my dog shorty but in Spanish and he answers I guess it depends who calls the dog because the other family members try to name him different and he doesn't answer to them.
YES, My dog knows to give me attention when I say her name. I taught her, her name early on. It is very simple. Have your dog on a leash and when the dog is not paying attention to you say the dogs name. If the dog turns toward you quickly mark that moment with a clicker or a "YES" and hold out a treat. If the dog does not look your way pull a bit on the leash while moving behind the dog and mark the second the dog looks to you and give a treat. Consistency on using the same name will help the dog have an association with the name.
my dogs name is jazz and she answers to :
jazz
jasmine
jazzi
