Parents: Do you allow your kids to use UKQnA.com?
If you're not too keen, it is because:
a. You are sceptical about whether it's actually useful for them; or
b. You think it may be useful, but there's content here that you'd rather they were not exposed to?
Is there any merit is creating an ID system for the site? Or would setting up a 'Y!A Jnr.' site (maybe within the main site) help?
Your thoughts, comments, suggestions?
Answers:
We have our computer in the kitchen. I have kids ages 5,7,9,10 the youngest is my daughter, the rest my sons.
I watch what they are doing when they are on the machine. To be honest I do not think the site is all that useful for them except to make bum jokes.
There are better places to get information. My ten year old has had about 10 memberships, each time I have been directly responsible for him getting kicked off. Usually for profanity.
As far as being exposed to content, it is my responsibility to monitor that. Nothing bothers me more about people who do not know what their kids look at. I like to explain to kids what they see means.
A junior membership would be interesting or at least an age limit on membership to unclog the site a bit.
my kids who are teens [14 +17] both come on to the site and answer the questions, I do not have any problems with that. the only thing is that they use up my allocation of answers before I can do it myself
Im a teen, but from a parents way of view I think kids wont be kids forever so they will get expossed to stuff aniway. So they should rather learn something then nothing. So they will atleast understand wuts good or bad.
A jr site would be a good idea but if like mine your children are mature you should choose on your knowledge of if they are web savy and know and follow the rule for safe use of the web.
No. I do not/would not let my 11 almost 12 year use UKQnA.com. There is too many sex questions, racist garbage and plain idiocy. Yahoo might do well to add a junior section that would not allow some of this stuff.
As an adult, I can choose not to look at these questions, report them or look at them. As a parent, I don't want my children having to make those decision yet (especially the sex question as I want them to come to me to ask questions not a bunch of strangers who have no responsibility to my kids).
dont need to ask parents, im 17! lol
As a parent of a 14-year-old (daughter), i would most definetly let her use it.
it is actually pretty useful..i've gotten answers that hve really helped me out.
and with the sex questions, you should all be able to trust your children enough to know not to answer/ask questions like that.
the problem with most parents is that they keep their kids on a leash, and don't trust them enough.
i know my kids are good in nature--and lathough they have done stuff in the past, they learn from it and are very good poele in general.
my kids dont like it but i would let them
My daughter is 10 years old and there is no way I would let her visit UKQnA.com! the concept here is great, but there are SO many jerks who don't have any problem at all getting on here and saying the most vile, vulgar and cruel things.. I simply choose to teach her better manners than she would EVER learn here from a great many of the participants.. and even more than that.. she might actually take a lot of these stupid answers as real answers and screw up her whole life.. no, I choose to be the parent here.. not a bunch of strangers who don't seem to have a brain between them. and just for the record, I do NOT include ALL answerers in this category. but there are enough of the idiots on here to screw it up for others.
yeah I turned my son onto it and he uses it all the time yet he is 17 so I never put any conditions on his usage that and he is a saint. I try to corrupt the child but he will not listen to me and it makes it so hard to discipline him for not listening to me
I am 16 and my parents don't really care what I do online.
But they do check.
they are to young
Not till they are 15 at least. Go read the foot fetish one and that type of thing is my whole reason why they are not even allowed near the computer if i am in Answers
i'm 13 and i can
my doesnt know
I Have 4 children 19 17 13 12
I won't let them even watch over my shoulder when I'm on, even the 17 yr old. Our comp. is in the nook just outside the kitchen. No way to hide what they are up to.
Not with people like Biscuit Bill and Monkey Fluffer about.
(By the way, which way to the naked breasts?)
no
