How can i get my 3 year old to use a potty.?
my 3 year old daughter refuses to use a potty and would rather just do the toilet anywhere except her potty. HELP!!
Answers:
I had that same problem with my little sister. We got a simple calender and these gold stickers with training seats on them. Anytime she would attempt to use the toliet and/or did, we would allow her to put the sticker on the date. If she did each day for the whole month we would buy her something special. It worked for my sis, hopefully it'll work for your daughter! Good luckl!
Keep taking him/her every 30 minutes or so, let them sit on the potty, get them a potty chair, new potty seat for your toilet. Try it all, I have tried it all and my daughter still goes when she wants, and its never at the right time.lol I have found that when I did take her every 30 minutes I would read to her or sing a song, run water, and she would go, and then just decided she wanted pull ups again :( Good Luck
patience and praise. took my son 6 months
Get her to sit on the toilet. See if you can get a dye that when she pees it colours the water. It is colourless but when mixed with urine it goes a bright colour. Make it a game. I have heard that they used to put this in swimming pools to stop people from peeing in them.
put her on the toilet and tell him/her to push
i took my little monsters shopping for their own potty at that age..girls go for pink pretty ones etc boys always head for the animal ones! they'' buy''it and race home to use it! It worked for all of my 3 so very good luck xx
With my daughter i had to take her potty away and make her wear wet panties. I know it seems mean but she always wanted her diaper changed and when i made her wear panties it made her want changed that much more
it only took 2 days to get her to use the potty cause wet panties dont feel good to anyone.
and you take her potty away because it gives a child the sence of being grown to use yours instead.
GOOD LUCK !
make a graph scheme were every time she wees on the potty she gets a star and a number 2 gets 2 stars. when she completes say? 5 stars she gets treated (sweets etc) and when completes whole graph 25 stars she gets a toy or something. but if she goes any where she loses a star . worked well for me!
You need an old fashion potty where there is a sliding table to keep her on the potty. That's a table like they have on high chairs. Unfortunately, they don't make them any more but maybe you can convert a high chair. That way, you can put crayons or something to get her attention and you can keep her on the potty until she uses it. When she does use it, you praise her effusively.
Have you tried just putting her straight onto the toilet, with a suitable seat on. My daughter hated the potty but felt all grown up doing the same as her parents!
Another idea is and this sounds gross, show her what the toilet is for, clap yourself and tell yourself how clever you are etc etc some just haven't got the idea and when she finally does it and she will, massive praise.
To get my son to wee in the toilet standing up I bought cheerios and asked him to sink them with his wee, it worked a treat!
Good Luck and most importantly stay patient
i tell my son if he uses the potty he can have 5 m&ms or some money.
Have you tried wee friend stickers? their £2.99, and they get stuck to the bottom of the potty, they are black until the child has weed on them when they change to a picture such as a smiley face, or a star or an animal depending on what you buy, it encourages them to wee on it in their potty.
some children just do it when they are ready you can't really force it. but you could try leaving the potty around and letting her get familiar with it, she'll soon learn.
try getting her to play with it with her dolly. explain what dolly is doing and that shes a big girl for using the potty then ask your daughter if she wants a turn.
some children would prefer to sit straight on the toilet so get a childs toilet seat and stool and see if she'll do that instead.
remember to give lots of prise child thrive on prise.
try letting her see how you use the toilet and then ask if she wants ago too
good luck
make it a massive show when she uses the potty clap and dance this seemed to work with mine keep telling everyone in front of her how big she is now and that very good girls use the potty you might feel like a mad women but if it works .. even if she just sit on it clap pretend shes been you find they do it more just to show off and forget the serious reason behide the game.
maybe tell her stories and make her sit then or maybe bribe her***
You can get musical potties, but you could try musical chairs.. u know, getting her to sit on it as a joke when a particular piece of music comes on. A handy 3-year old friend who has been primed and bribed to teach your daughter how lovely potties are might help! Peer pressure? If she really hates it, back to paddy pants till she decides she wants to be a big girl and not wet them.
Whatever happens, keep smiling like it really doesnt matter, or she will use it to control you. U are the grown up here.
Maybe its the potty. Try a different one.
