What's the best brand high chair to get and why?(baby just recently being able to sit up on own and be fed)

which ones should I not consider? Not wanting to pay over, say £70

Answers:
for the time in them Mothercare do a great one only £25 !!
Go onto www.Amazon. com and look at all the highchairs in your price range. People who have bought and used them usually write reviews. I picked out everything for my baby based on reviews from other moms.
I use a high chair and would advise you not to bother at all with these fancy ones that recline and are height adjustable and all the rest as you will never use these gizmo's and they are harder to clean - especially after baby has upturned a bowl of something sloppy into all those grooves - get the cheapest one, only the tray must adjust and the seat should have a soft vinyl cover and one with no hard to get at places.
There is not a best brand. You will need to determine which features are important to you. I would get one with an antimicrobial tray that can go through the dishwasher, and with a plastic frame so that it can be put in the shower and hosed down occassionally. Try to find one that has adjustable height, and can tilt back slightly for babies just learning to sit up. This is great. Rollers are very helpful as well, if you like to have baby in it to play while you are cooking. They can be rolled to follow you around the kitchen so they are always at arm's reach. We like Peg Perego, but the less expensive models can serve your needs just as well. It's all about the features you want, and ease of cleaning.
Whats the budget?

We got Prima Pappa from Mama's & Papa's but it was £100.

Bit pricey compared to the £25 Mothercare one but its does 'till they are around 4 year old
We have a Baby Trend which has worked out great for us. It has multiple height and reclining adjustments. Only complaint is that the cover that comes with it is fabric on one side. It looks great but not practical unless you want to be washing it every day. The other side is plain white wipeable vinyl though which is great. Good luck.
I like Baby Trend. It's approved by the JPMA and it reclines so if your child falls asleep at the table you just recline the chair and she'll sleep just fine while you eat.

The cover is easy to remove and washes up like new.

It's the one that I have and am pleased with it
I love Graco, you don't need anything fancy or with different heights and blah blah blah.I think I paid maybe $30 for mine @ walmart and it works awesome. Just make sure that it's safe and I suggest getting one with a large table because if your child isn't "eating" with you she/he can sit there and play at the table while you eat so having a large enough table for toys is a plus. Hopefully I've helped. Congrads on your baby sitting up, don't they look so cute when they learn "simple things"!
I would get a more durable and safe one.. i think those european ones are pretty good. i know.. they are pretty expensive though! don't buy it online if you have never seen a real product. you might want to go to babies r us to check it out first!good luck!
Personally, I liked the Eddie Bauer high chair. It has a removal tray cover so it is easier to wash. Because it is made of wood and quite heavy it is very stable. Although having straps is a reccomendation I have to say that unless you are willing to snug these up pretty tight your baby can still climb out of them unless they are full five point with shoulder straps too. I have experienced the exact reason why you don't leave baby in a highchair unattended. It's amazing what can happen with your back turned for a couple of minutes even if you are in the same room. Once I had a sixteen month old get out of the straps and actually climb down the high chair. Fortunately, it was heavy enough not to tip over. However, I was certainly more attentive after that. I was glad that it was heavy enough to not tip over but I suspect that most high chair would do if you watch more closely. The Eddie Bauer runs about $100 American so that would be about 70 pounds. It has no adjustments at all; its just a solid piece of furniture with washable padding.

BTW, I got this same surprise again when she climbed over the railing of the crib. I've noticed that although Mother Care goes into a lot of detail about safety in a high chair they don't say anything about cribs. Climbing over a crib rail is at least as hazardous as climbing out of a high chair but there isn't much you can do to prevent it unless you secure a net covering over the top. A determined, less than 2 year old toddler is capable of climbing the vertical rail slats. Fortunately, I had gotten a crib that was convertible to a daybed for toddlers. So, the sliding gate came off and then she could get out without having to climb over anything.
there is no 'best brand' when it comes to high chairs. as long as its safe and sturdy, and your baby feels comfortable in it, any high chair is good. If its branded and from expensive and famous places, the highchair might be expensive, unless its on sale. So, just get a normal brand one--don't forget cute--that's safe, sturdy, and comfortable, and you'll be good to go =)
I paid £10 for mine second hand and it came to good use twice over. If you're a first time parent and wanting new things don't bother (I made that mistake and bought £400 pushchair then ended up using a umbrella buggy which only cost £10 and it lasted for years!). What I'm saying is just buy the cheapest one because they all do the same job I promise.
Wooden ones look lovely until I used one for my son in restuarant and he banged his head a few times. Not pratical!

I have a Hauck on which folds flat as we were pused for space, nice big tray but not a vinyl cover so a bit tricky to clean!

Its like everything when it comes to babies, you go with what suits your needs!
You need to figure out if you want it to move or not easily. I reccommend one on wheels if your baby likes to be with you say if you are cooking dinner and i would not reccommend buying one with lots of places where food can go! We had a chicco all singing dancing reclining one and it was a nightmare to clean! The stokke high chairs are the best these days i think they are sturdy very good for their posture easy to clean and last for years hope this helps
I have to agree with every one else that you should make your decision on what your need.
I found that a high chair took up to much space in my kitchen and found it too difficult to keep really clean - I quickly swopped to a plastic booster chair - from mothercare for about £10.00, it went through the dishwasher - easily taken to relatives house, great for camping, and still being used by my friend now, so has done three kids very nicely thank you.
A friend of mine came over to visit and she had a "Bumbo". It was the coolest chair thing I've ever seen! Apparently it is chiropracter approved, it's all foam, no straps, and it doesn't slide on smooth surfaces or tip over - it's also great for travelling. If they had them when my kids (4) were that age I would have gotten one. If you just want a highchair IKEA has a good selection - and the price is right.
why dont you go to mothercare
Mine was £45 I think and its the pine cube 1 from mothercare. But the reason I like it is that it converts in2 a toddler chair and table so you get about 4-5 years of use out of it! Bargain!
I've used the same plain, white £14 Ikea high chair for both of my sons and it's been great.
I was a nanny for years before I had my sons and got to try out lots of different brands before deciding on the Ikea one.
The fancy ones are often bulky and have to be manouevered around when walking through the kitchen, even when folded. The highly coloured ones seem great when they're new but the novelty soon wears off.

The Ikea highchair has a plain seat and tray of good shape and size and nowhere for food to get stuck and the metal legs come off which makes it perfect for storing between children or taking to grandma's house.

I didn't buy this one because it was cheap but because I thought it would be the best one for my needs and it was. :-)

With the money you save, you could buy a Bumbo seat, as suggested by someone else. They're excellent for babies 4months and over but they aren't useful for very many months, in my experience. Really good for taking with you on holiday or to friend's houses.
You can find good deals on Ebay, which is where I bought mine for about £30. Then you can re-sell it later.

Good luck! :-)
