Breast Feeding Vs Bottle Feeding?
Just interested to hear your opinions.I'll give mine first. I know that breast is best, but I chose to bottle feed both my children. The first time round it was ignorance and embarrassment, because I was young and my mum, partner and his family had all bottle fed, and I didn't feel there was anyone positive I could speak to. The second time round, I felt it would be too hard with a toddler around, and that I might bond better with the second than the first, which may cause problems in the long run.
I actually think that giving newborns cows milk is a bit mental when a mother has her own milk which is tailored to her own child. I don't actually drink cows milk, and I'm angry with myself for giving it to my babies :(
If I had my time over again, I'd breastfeed without hesitation. I won't be having anymore children, and I actually feel like I've missed out on something really special, and something which my body is made to do.and that's sad.

1st lets get this straight, U R NOT A BAD MOM for not breastfeeding for whatever reasons, so stop feeling bad over that. Ur children are fine I am sure. Everyone cant breastfeed for whatever reasons. What I did with my daughter that is now 2 years old and I plan on doing with the baby I am having in a few weeks is: I pumped for the whole 13 mos and put the breast milk in bottles. Some people said I was making it harder on me, but I didnt have a prob with it, bcuz I wanted to see how much my daughter was getting, plus I was having a hard time getting her to latch on right and I didnt want to give her formula, so I did what I thought was best for us. I will try when I have this baby to put him on the breast but I am planning to pump and put it in the bottle anyways. Also this is just my opinion, U have kids and that experience alone has not made U miss out on anything special, bcuz remember some people cant have kids and whos to say if you would have tried to breastfeed that it would have worked? Cheer up, those lil bundles of joy are going to make U have alot of special moments. I feel being able to have a baby is the best thing I have done in llife, it is truly amazing and wonderful. So be thankful and go on raising ur children. Be blessed!!
Breast feeding is the best way to go in my opinon for both mom and baby. It does allow you to bond with your child. Although I realize it is difficult for some moms for several reasons. I would not beat yourself up about not breast feeding. As long as your children are healthy and happy thats really all that matters.
brest is best
sets up the immune system
though I didnt enjoy it, but did it for 6 weeks, messy job
you do what you feel would be best for your children.
I bottle and breastfed my daughter for the first 6 months. I did the bottle because of what you said, embarrassment. I was very uncomfortable breastfeeding in public, even when family came to visit. I would pump when I gave her a bottle of formula and save it but I never pumped out very much. If I do have another baby I will exclusively breastfeed for a year. It's such a fantastic bond and much easier than cleaning bottles all the time.
You gave cow's milk? I know formula is cow milk based is that what you mean?
I know that breastfeeding is better for the health of your children, and a great way to bond. I have a 4 and 5 year old, and only nursed my 4 year old. needless to say, they weigh the same, and my four year old has had way less ear infections. and way less problems. I highly suggest for emotional and health reasons to nurse. But there is no wrong way.
It's impossible to give a newborn cows milk. They drink formula.Any way I think breast is best because Its formulated diffrent to fit each childs needs
when you breast feed your child, (s)he will get all the nutrients a human child needs, plus you pass on your immunities to various diseases, which cows milk will not do
Doesn't matter for the baby. Breast feeding is good for the mother. Helps your uterus get back into shape, and helps burn calories. Baby is fine as long as formula prepared correctly. When they go to kindergarten, no one is going to know if they were breast or bottle babies!
I breastfed my daughter for the first six months, but she wouldn't nurse, so I had to pump! All the time! It was really inconvenient, but I knew it was better for her so I did it. After six months it just became to hard.
you should always breast feed babies if you can. breast feeding transfers certain immunities that the other has to the baby, which leads to a much healthier baby.
Women absolutely need to breastfeed their babies. If they can't, they should search out local breast milk banks. The reason is that bottle-fed children will almost 100% develop allergies, breathing problems and a host of other health issues because they missed out on the essential immunity factors present in mother's breast milk. There are 5 pre-digested carbohydrate chains that are essential to the formation of a healthy immune system and your body can get the other three from your basic diet. Let other young mothers know!
I'm sorry that you feel guilty - if it's any consolation, I think guilt is an integral part of parenting. Every parent makes mistakes and beats themselves up about it. Bottle feeding was promoted to you in a way that breast feeding wasn't, so how were you to know?
It's a sad fact that there is no one to make money out of breast milk, so it doesn't get advertised or promoted in the way that it should.
I did breastfeed both my children for the first three months and then switched to formula. I knew when I had my first one that I would be leaving very soon after for basic training, this is why I breastfeed first. I enjoyed it so much that I breast feed the second child for that length of time as well. I think it depends on time and circumstance when making this decision. Either way, I don't think that the child will suffer. With the way formula has evolved, it is actually quite good for babies and probably at the same level of nutrition as breast milk. It really does come down to choice.
P.S. I am the only person in my family to breast feed, they all thought i was nuts.
well i tried breast feeding my first but only lasted 5 days, looking back i didnt have enough support or info to carry on and like you when i had my 2nd only a year later i didnt feel that i could feed a baby and look after a toddler and i totally regretted not trying but i had my 3rd 2 years after my 2nd( i had a 3 year old and a 2 year old) and breast feed her and i loved every minute and when i have another i will be breast feeding again. so what im trying to say is that if you want to breast feed make sure you know all the facts especially about expressing when you are findind it a bit hard, it will help you get through it. it is a great feeling know that you are giving your baby the best but can i just say that none of my children have had any health problems
Breast feeding, if you are able to do it, is a really good experience. Not only is it good for the baby giving them much needed anti-bodies but just a great way to be really close to your baby and force you to take a break in your busy routine. Breast feeding helps you to regain your pre-baby figure and is immensely convenient. The bonding issue I don't think rates as you can bond just as well holding a bottle - don't worry that you feel like you missed out - give your kids all the love and support you can - they will remember that far longer than anything else.
BREAST FEEDING IS BEST FEEDING FOR BOTH MOTHER AND FOR CHILD.Forget about history of your relatives. It is a right of every child to get his/her mother's milk.It is a law of nature, every animal follows it from elephants to rat.Otherwise better to be without child, why you did take trouble of 9 months? If you are and can not tolerating/hesitating this pain/situation. INTROSPECT yourself.
Breastfeeding increases IQ and prevents EAR-INFECTION of baby.INCREASES deases resisting power of baby and keeps your baby healthy.
The quantity of milk is consumed by baby will be reform again in your body,so there is no harm and trouble to you in any sense, after breastfeeding.so don't worry about it.
Your breasts will remain erect by breastfeeding because it is a type of exercise to your breasts, otherwise those who are not feeding, their breasts are hanged up like a pumpkin. It is very bad thing. INSISTINGLY YOPU BREASTFEED TO YOUR BABY UPTO 6 MONTHS,THEN START MILK BOTTLE.
AS A SCIENCE TEACHER IT IS MY VALUABLE SUGGESTION TO YOU.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry that you missed out on breastfeeding. Too bad you didn't have a support system for it.
I personally feel that breastmilk is a baby's birthright. I think all babies should be breastfed for at least the first year. All of my children have nursed until they self-weaned, well beyond a year.
EDITED TO ADD:
just curious - what do you think formula is made of? It comes from cow's milk! (Unless you buy soy formula.)
I'm sorry you feel you missed out but don't feel bad you did what was right for you at the time.
Breastfeeding is good for the baby yes. I was going to breastfeed my baby, but ended up having a 9lb 10oz baby and a c-section, so I was in tremendous pain, and could hardly hold my baby at first. It was very sad. So I chose to go ahead and bottle feed. One thing I do like about bottle feeding, it allows the father to bond with the baby as well. I loved watching my husband bond with our son, it was such a great moment seeing them two. So we could take turns. I dunno, I really enjoyed that. But if I ever have another-and it isn't like the last, then I'd definitely try it.
Also- my son is now a year old, and was and is perfectly healthy the entire year- no colds/flu, nothing. He's a very healthy boy-and I'm very thankful. Formula isn't all that bad!
Babies are born with no antibodies so they get them from the mothers colostrum (the first milk). The antibodies in colostrum are not perminent but last untill the baby can form its own antibodies. If you dont breastfeed and your child gets a cold, for example, it takes them a few days for there bodys to make the correct antibodies to fight the infection. If the child would have had the mothers antibodies (from colostrum) then the immune system would already have the correct antibodies and fight it off quicker. perhaps stopping it from turning into something worse. If more women had this information then maybe more women would breastfeed. I understand the convenience of bottle feeding but I wouldnt take the chance with my childs health. even a few days is enough the build up this natural immune system.
There is no reason to feel bad. I wasn't able to breast feed (I never produced milk). My daughter was formula fed and is now 11.5 months old. She hasn't once had a cold, cough, sniffle, infection, etc. She's in great health and is developing ahead of schedule. Sometimes formula is better since it's regulated. Your breast milk contains anything you ingest, which isn't always healthy.
Well firstly, let me say I totally understand! When I had my 1st son at 33 weeks pregnancy he didn't have the sucking reflex so I couldn't breast feed! I also didn't give breast pumping much of a go, because in my mind I was always really embaressed at the thought of having to breast feed in front of my relatives and strangers! When I had my 2nd son full term I thought it was unfair to breast feed him as my 1st son still had a bottle, and I had him 4 days before xmas, so it was just easier to bottle feed!
7 yrs later I had a different husband and we had a baby daughter, who I was thinking about breast feeding, however she came 7 weeks early too! And she had a cleft palate, so I had to bottle feed her with a special bottle! However I did pump for 3 weeks , but as she was so hard to feed it became to time consuming with 2 older kids! when my daughter was 3, I had my 4th child, a son! He is now 1 and I am still breast feeding him!
It took a lot of courage, cos at first I was embaressed in front of my other kids! However, I have managed to feed my son in front of all sort of people discretly! I have only ever come across one stupid joker that tried to embaress me, but made himself look a fool! I have been told I hav eto give up breast feeding to have a mammogram as my sister has breast cancer, it has caused me so much upset, but after investigating this more and talking to my GP I am going to keep breast feeding till I want to stop.
I cannot believe I lasted so long, even my friends who tried to encourage me just did 6 months! I do feel having a new husband, with a new family helped me a great deal! I think my husband really has been so supportive through all the anxieties i have had. To be honest, I feel really lucky that I have had the opportunaty to breast feed . But I will tell you now, it is the real lazy cows way to feed ! Don't beat yourself up, bottle feeding is much harder work and more expensive! i noticed the idiot who said about cows milk too, what are people like!
I breastfed my first (son). It was hard, my nipples both cracked open and bled. It was painful, messy, and difficult. BUT he didn't get sick, he had this wonderful glow to his skin, and it was nice to snuggle into the couch with him knowing I had what he wanted. I never pumped my milk, I couldn't get a lot to come out...so the minimal times I had to leave him with daddy, he got some formula. But he didn't eat a lot of it, and spit up more.
With my daughter, I was looking forward to being more experianced, and having tougher nipples. Not true! They cracked and bled again. It was very emotionally draining. But it only lasted for 2 weeks, and the smiles I get when she is nursing are priceless.
I breastfeed in front of family (covered of course), and I cover up and do it in public if needed. It is a wonderful gift. I have to say, that it is not the most enjoyable thing to do, it's messy and hard breasts are certainly not comfortable, but you only do it for 1-3 years max, so why not? That is such a short time to not give the best to your child.
Well I breast feed and bottle feed my kids. but i just had my daughter and i use to breast feed more than bottle.my daughter does much better for as getting sick other tha my sons did. they stayed sick bcuz i didnt breast feed them as much as i do my daughter. i feel like breast feeding is very important for the fist three months to six months.
IF YOU CAN BREAST FEED THEN DO IT!
I don't see why a mother who can breast feed would bottle feed! my wife couldn't breast feed because maybe I sucked on her **** too hard before she got pregnant that's why she couldn't produce enough milk after she gave birth. whatever the reason why she couldn't produce milk we had to bottle feed my baby because we have no option.
just be blessed that some of you moms' can breast feed your baby, and not have to give sh11t to your baby as an alternative.
but anywhoo my baby is doing fine with formula.
at 3 month she is walking and talking and doing math equations. so thank you very much!
Breastfeeding is easier on the mum. No mixing formula, warming bottles, sterilizing. And it's free! It helps you lose weight and is better for the baby. Bottle feeding just doesn't make sense to me.
I can see how breastfeeding might be harder in the US if you don't get a big mat leave.
you know logically its the best thing for them
but i based my decision to feed them on the fact that its there all the time, ready, no prep
free
as a nanny i knew how organised you had to be
as a parent i was just not as organised
and yes giving them milk from a different species is wierd when you think about it
I breastfed both my sons up till 9 month, I am now pregnant with my third baby and I can't wait till I breastfeed him/her. It is the best feeling I have ever felt next to holding them in my arms for the first time, and the bond and closeness that I had was the best ever. I am not saying that you can't have that if you are not breastfeeding, but it is truly a very special thing between a mother and the baby. I also used to bottle fed them if we were out or if it was not convenient to fed them, I am not the type who would flash my breasts anywhere and fed them. i did it very privately, and discretely.
The most important thing is a loving mother you cannot beat that, i brest fed my son two years but i could not be bovered to get up in the night rush about to make up bottles.
Stop beating yourself up, love. Your children are fine and there's no point feeling guilty about something you can do nothing about now.
Concentrate on being the best Mum you can be now - and forget about the breast/bottle thing.
Your concern about the whole thing shows what a good and loving mother you are, so enjoy your kids and lighten up :-) !

Concentrate on being the best Mum you can be now - and forget about the breast/bottle thing.
Your concern about the whole thing shows what a good and loving mother you are, so enjoy your kids and lighten up :-) !
