Drinking, then pregnancy discovered?

would it cause harm to the baby, if you went out and had a great night but got quite drunk, then a week later discovered you were pregnant? could this put you at higher risk of having a miscarriage? thanks for your time in answering this for me

The begginning of a pregnancy - the first 12 weeks - is one of the most vital parts. The brain and nervous system are forming even before the heart or lungs. I only mention that because so many have said that early doesn't matter. It does. That being said, as long as this was a one time thing, it probably won't do any harm. I don't know exactly how much makes you quite drunk, but I went out in the early stages of my last pregnancy (before I knew) and had 2 margaritas and 2 shots of taquila - which is enough to get me drunk. He turned out fine. There are cases where the baby did not though. There is a group of birth defects called Fetal Alcohol Sydrom (FAS.) It is a relatively low chance 3 in a 1000, but you should tell your doctor you did drink before you knew so he can run special tests to check the baby. Here is a link about it: http://www.cnn.com/health/library/ds/001.
of your young and healthy hopefully not
but if you are a slightly older lady (toward child bearing years end) then maybe,
but dont drink heavy anymore just a glass of wine now and again to be social but no getting plastered
good luck
possibly, but some people go out drinking every weekend and don't know they are pregnant don't worry to much i am sure you will be fine just avoid any alcohol from now on. good luck.
Probably not. Many, many women find out they are pregnant after they have drank too much, and the babies are fine.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Worrying won't help anyway, just try to be healthy now.
If you've just learned that you're pregnant, but have had a few drinks recently, you don't be overly concerned about your baby. It's never too late to improve your child's chances at good health by cutting down on your drinking, or safer still, by not drinking at all. Developmental problems in the fetus are generally linked to excessive, chronic drinking.

This comment came from the below web site, check it out but iw ould not worry as long as its not something you plan to do during the preg.
dont worry alot about it coz at that point of pregnacy nothing can be affected
A week is a long time. Could you have become pregnant AFTER the drinking session? What matters now is that now you are pregnant, you shouldn't do anything silly that could harm the chances of a normal birth. If you are planning to keep the baby, then it's a lifetime commitment. Stay healthy, and don't take harmful substances, this includes smoking and drinking.
no just dont drink nor smoke anymore
for a start if you are having unprotected sex then you should not be drinking just in case you are pregnant. I mean, if you are TRYING for a baby then don't drink. Yes if you got drunk early in pregnancy you are risking both the foetus and the pregnancy itself.
Hi, I understand your concerns, before I knew I was pregnant with my first baby I went to a wedding and got pretty drunk, I must have been about 8 weeks preg, and my baby was fine. I spoke to my doc and he was reassuring also. Just focus on doing all you can to ensure you have a healthy pregnancy from now on. I wish you alll the best.

P.s To fenland, just ease off a bit you dont know the circumstances surrounding conception, ie how do you know she was having unprotected sex, contraception can fail you know.
I had my engagement party when i got totally plastered then found out I was 6 weeks pregnant! I have had smooth pregnancy so nothing to worry about and I have carried to term as well with a fully developed baby! good luck!!
The night before i found out i was pregnant with twins it was my boyfriends 21st and lets just say i'd had alot to drink.
all of my scans have been fine and im 25 weeks now.
as long as you dont drink once you find out your pregnant then theres no harm done.
I celebrated New Year and a couple of parties a week later not knowing I was only a few days pregnant and although my placenta apparently wasn't very healthy looking (doctor asked if I smoked) my son was perfect and has grown up into a healthy child.
I can't really tell you if it puts you at higher risk, but I can tell you my experience:

My best friend was quite a drinker for a period of about 6 months. One day she went in to the doctor for something really silly like the sniffles. and the doctor told her she was 5 1/2 months pregnant. Her baby was totally healthy and is now almost 3 years old.
I think this happens to many women, who go on to have healthy babies. There is nothing you can do about the drinks you have had, but you can make sure you are healthy for the rest of your pregnancy.
