I have a day care in my home and currently watch a one year old. She wakes up at home around 6 am, they feed and change her and she's at my house around 7:30 am. She plays for an hour, we sing songs or have a short "circle" time, then I feed her a morning snack and then put her down for a nap at 9 am. She sleeps until 11. I change her and we play, I start fixing lunch for all the kids at 11:30 and she gets to play with the big kids for a while, 2 and 3 year olds. We eat at 12 and then back down for afternoon nap at 1pm. She will sleep until about 3:00. Afternoon snack is around 3:30, then we play inside or out depending on weather until around 5pm. The kids clean up and we have book time until parents come, 5:30pm. Her parents tell me her bedtime is 8 pm, but I can tell if that's true depending on how well she sleeps during the day. If she sleeps well, I know it was around 8. If she doesn't sleep well, I know they have kept her up to late the night before.
Your baby should be getting 2 naps a day, still, and an early bedtime, no later than 8pm. My daughter cut out the morning nap when she was around 14 months but still took an almost 3 hour nap in the afternoon until she was 3. Now that she's 3 her nap is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Whether or not you take her out during the day is completely up to you. I keep 5 kids in my home and if 2 are absent, I can only fit 3 car seats in my car, we go to the park in the morning. I also do water play days once a week, where we will spend almost the entire morning outside, now that the weather is hot enough. I will keep the one year old awake on those days, just once a week, so she can have more play time in the water with the older kids. Providing her lots of activity during the day will make her tired and she will sleep longer at nap times. Good luck!
I have a ten-month old and she has what I call a "sliding schedule". This means she wakes up, eats, plays, etc. basically on her own schedule. She does take naps in a general two-hour window, but she eats when she is hungry. She goes to bed between 7pm and 9pm, depending on the day. She is the easiest-going baby in the world. GOOD LUCK!
Every baby is different and has a differant schedule. What exactly are you doing? Most of it is instinct..you just sort of know.
When my kids were that age, I took them everywhere. The world is full of stimulation! Make sure you bring snacks.
I was never a slave to a routine, it destroys the day. If baby was tired and I was out, she slept in the stroller. I didnt run home for her to nap. I say take it as it comes and have fun!
The only routine I followed was to have close to the same bedtime everynight. It drives me insane when parents need to run a childs life like a prison is run.
Hiya, I have 3 children under the age of 5, my youngest is 6 months at the mo. I know its easier said than done, but you should really take the lead from your baby and trust your instinct. I am sure people will come back and give you a blow by blow account and time schedule of their day, but I don't think life should be that complicated. Generally with 3 children one will always be waiting for something but thats not a bad thing. Generally She has a feed at 7amish when she wakes, but if she is asleep I leave her till she wakes. She has lunch at lunchtime with all of us, and maybe a bottle at around 2.30ish and then dinner at dinnertime with us all, and milk at around 7.30/8pm, but again i take my lead from her as she knows when she is hungry and thirsty. I tend to let her sleep in her rocker that way she just drifts off when she needs to. Sorry its such a long reply. I am sureyou are a great mum so just listen to your heart and your head x
I have a 7 month old and a 20 month old. Our two go to bed around 7 o'clock at night and get up around 6 o'clock in the morning. They more or less have their feeding times around the same time as us now i.e: breakfast, lunch, tea, and supper. Does your baby seem happy and contented with the way you are doing things? If so i would carry on doing what you are doing now. Try not to worry so much as it is all really about learning as you go along. People can give you advice from their own experience but all baby's are different and their is no perfect parent. I am sure you are doing an excellent job all ready.
I am a mother of a 6 yr old and a almost 1 yr old, both girls. There really is no set time for anything with a baby but they do have their own schedules. Mine wakes up at about 830-900am, gets changed and dressed and then eats. She is very insistant on being fed within 15 minutes of getting up. She eats cereal and fruit or scrambled eggs or pieces of toast, it all depends. After that we play with her and talk and sing with her, she has a great big sister to teach her all kinds of things. At about 10:30-11:00 am she wants to take her morning nap and sleeps for about an hour. Then she gets up and they go outside, she stays in her walker on the porch or we take her on the swing. It is very hard to keep a baby entertained all day and it seems she is doing new things everyday and her vocabulary is just expanding every day as well. I would love to talk further with you please feel free to email me and I can give you more info and ideas on this.
Hi there!
My baby is only 8 months, but wanted to reply to you anyway! Dont forget there is no set routine, all babies and mothers are different and it depends on what you have to do in the day too, but mine goes something like this
7 am - up (she wakes around this time by herself) and breakfast. this consists of a bottle and a bowl of baby rice
about 8 30 she naps for about an hour
play time in her play pen, by herself or with me
10 ish - bottle
more play, or we're out running errands. nap before lunch (usually only about half an hour)
1-2 lunch (sweet potato and veggies)
another nap for an hour
4-5 - bottle
7ish - bath, bottle and bed.
This isnt set though - her feeding times remain the same but her naps and playtimes depend on her mood, and sometimes we are running around all day so she snatches sleep in the car.
Dont panic if you arent pandering to her every desire - we have lifes to run and they have to learn to fit round that too. I find that some harmless TV for half an hour at a time helps if you need to get stuff done - theres no harm in it!
Im sure you are doing a great job! All your baby needs is love and attention, and she will thrive. Dont get too bogged down in the routine, just do what feels right!
I read the book Baby Wise when my baby was 2 months old. It changed my life. He just turned one on Saturday. Basically my baby wakes up at 6am, I nurse him, then play for a little while and feed him breakfast before he goes down for his morning nap which is 2- 2 1/2 hours after he wakes up. He'll nap for an hour then he wakes up and plays. We'll either run errands in the morning or just hang out at home.
One day a week we have a tumbles class and another we play with neighbors. Around 11:30 he's ready for lunch and he eats, then plays more until his afternoon nap which is from 2 until 4:30 or 5 depending on how much energy he wore out during the day. He'll have a snack when he wakes up if it's early and he'll have dinner at 6 with us. Otherwise if he wakes up late he'll just eat dinner early. After his snack we go for a walk, that's my exercise, or we go to the park.
Then at 8pm every single night we undress him and he nurses one more time then we take a shower and he goes to sleep by 8:30. Keep a pretty tight schedule and you and your baby will be able to know what's going to happen next. Try reading that book if you can.
my son is now 3 but those days seemed just like yesterday. i check my journal and this was what we did at 1. he woke up around 7:30- 8:00 am wanting a drink ( we where weaning to a sippy cup) after h drank his bottle/cup I'd change his diaper. i'm a stay at home mom so first thing in the morning we'd spend cuddling on the couch just me and him no t.v no other distractions. somewhere around 9:00 he'd be hungry. we'd eat. his favorite think for breakfast was hot oatmeal with smashed banana's. of -course he was a messy self feeder so after breakfast I'd give him a bath and we'd get dressed for the day. the time between 10 and 12:00 we played out side weather permitting inside if not. around 12:00 i'd turn on the t.v and allow him to watch that while i made his lunch. how about a 1/2 grilled cheese sandwhcih and ajar of baby food. after lunch i'd wipe him off change his diaper. turn on some soft music instrumental or lulluby and put him in his crib to nap. after nap time somewhere around 2 I'd change him, we'd read a few stories and I'd offer him a snack around 3. anything goes from 3-4:30 .daddy comes home then.he'd spend sometime with him until I got supper done around 5:30 (normally he's put him in the tub with him and watch t.v) he'd eat with us . which would be over by around 6:30 while I cleaned up he'd play by himself in the kitchen floor. from 7:00- unti 8:30 is time I'd use to run to the store or relax outside or on the couch. by 9:00pm I'd get him ready for bed, read him a story. offer a snack and juice. lights out for him no later than 9:30 . then i'd join my husband for some together time
They get up when they want to..usually 8 is good then you can feed them after changing them. At a year I think I was doing fruits and maybe some dry cheerios, or that cereal..none of mine liked that cereal, I used it mostly as a fill in for something to fill them up if I was going on errands.
Routine?what the H*** is that. I have 3 children 6-12 ages and to be honest...i gave up on the routine by #2. First of all one thing is, just wing it, if you want to go do something, shop whatever, go, take cheerios in a baggie and a bottle or 2, go, have fun, the baby will take a nap, will look around, it is good for them. It is great to get fresh air, just not in full sun in the heat of the day, go in the AM to the park, or whatever, and push him/her in the baby swings. One thing I did, was we put in a swing in our garage, you know the Little Tikes ones, and so if I wanted to go weed the flower beds, or whatever, I just hooked it up (you know where the garage door goes up and down) in that jam part, so he/she could see me, and I would swing them and then weed, swing, weed, or whatever. It gives you a chance to get out and them, too.
I learned after Hannah my oldest, to STOP sitting there playing with her every second, because she became dependant on me to be RIGHT there and it posed a problem. My mom gave me a good idea once and you may think this is so dumb, but it works...you know they are always trying to get into your drawers in the kitchen. SO get a paper sack, grocery bag, shopping bag whatever, fill it with utensils, rubber spatulas, wooden spoons, measuring cups, NOTHING sharp ofcourse, just rubber and round stuff etc...and let them dig that stuff out and put it back in and dig it out and put it in..change it out, maybe every other day. ALSO, let them play with placemats on the floor, we have plastic ones too, and they LOVE IT. Lids to like aerosol cans, of course wash them in top of dishwasher, they love to play with those...it is so funny, I realized you do not have to spend alot of money for toys, they love what you have already in your cabinets...pots and pans they beat on with a spoon.its amazing. If you work, do this on weekends. If you want anymore silly ideas (I am home 24/7) since baby #2.I have alot of ideas!! email me at sokrvolleyhoopsmom@yahoo.com... fun! that is a great age!
My younger son will be 1 year old in about a week.
6:30 a.m. Wake up
7:00 a.m. breakfast (usually a bowl of baby cereal with some jarred fruit mixed in); sippy cup of formula
9:00 a.m. one hour walk, weather permitting
10:00 a.m. sippy cup of water, a few Ritz crackers or part of a cut up banana
12:00 p.m. Lunch--either a jar of stage 3 food (turkey and rice dinner, for example) or whatever his older (2 year old) brother is having.grilled cheese, greenbeans and peaches, for example; sippy cup of formula
12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Nap time!
3:00 p.m. sippy cup of water, cheese and crakers or yogurt
6:00 p.m. Dinner--either stage 3 jarred food or whatever teh family is having (baked chicken, mixed veggies, rolls) (We're getting him off of jarred baby food and into "human" food now, LOL); sippy cup of formula
7:30 p.m. Bath
8:00 p.m. bed time!
During the rest of the day, we just play, read, sometimes, but not often, watch tv such as sesame street, etc. Also, the times are approximate. Some mornings he's up at 6 a.m., some mornings he sleeps in until 7:30.
i try to get my 18 mo old to bed at the same time every night except my days off-i try to give him alot to drink only at meal times so he eats more-grows more-bath every other night unless of course dirty-cereal in the am w/ fruit and what ev he'll eat fro lunch or dinner-i experimented w/ a bunch of foods to figure out what he liked
My son wakes up at 7 and we start with the usual diaper change and then I take him into the kitchen to eat breakfast, which is usually oatmeal. I buy the fruit and cream variety packs at wal-mart. He also has a sippy cup of milk, and sometimes a piece of toast. Then I let him watch an hour of Elmo's world, or some other movie. Then I take him outside to play in his little pool if it is warm enough. Or I will sit down on the floor and play cars with him, or blocks. He enjoys that. at about 10:30 he goes down for his 3 hour nap and when he wakes up he eats lunch. Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich (half) and 5 cheetos, or a gram cracker, with some juice. then we go for a little walk sometimes or we get back on the floor and play a little bit. Until Dad gets home then he wants Dad. At about 5 or 5:30 we eat dinner. He eats whatever I have to cook for the night spegetti, chicken, whatever he eats what we eat and has a sippy cup of milk. After dinner he gets his bath. He plays with Dad a little bit and has a sippy cup of water. 8:00 is bedtime. I just took him off his bottle a week ago and he is dong pretty good. He is 14 months old. He sleeps through the night, but does cry out sometimes, just doesn't wake up. If his sleeping and eating schedule is interrupted in any way there is hell to pay. He lets me know he isn't happy and if he's not happy, I'm not happy! Your probably not doing anything wrong. Every mom sets a schedule of their own for there child depending on what works for them.
hi, when my daughter was born i gave her the usual 4 hour bottles, then i would give her a last bottle at 11pm for bed. as each week passed i bought the the bed time feed half and hour earlier each week, ie, 11pm,10.30, 10.00.9.30 ect until we got down to 7pm, which is her bedtime. one rule i was very strict on when she was newborn, was if she was asleep nobody could pick her up, so she could sleep in peace and establish more of a routine. i would make sure she still had an afternoon nap, now she is 2yrs she still goes to bed at 7pm, but i won't let her nap after 4 o clock and i make sure her afternoon nap is not too long in the afternoon. once her dinner goes down i bath her, bottle then bed. i also let her take juice upto bed with her incase she gets thirsty in the night. she tends to wake up between 6.30- 7am. i usually let her eat when she is hungry at the same time as me, except at dinner time we have a set routine. since birth i used to take my daughter out everyday in her pram. i still take her out for a walk everyday as she likes to be out and it tires her. hope this helps you, but i do think it's a very good idea to establish a good routine, as this can make life easier in the long run. i know some mum's who's 2yr old won't go to bed until 11pm and the mum never gets any free time to herself. it's hard to begin with but it make life a lot easier. best of luck!
Well my son just turned one.He wakes up about 8;00 in the morning and takes his one and only nap at around noon.Betwwen that we go to the store,I'm thinking of letting him ride the horsey.Anyway,We go garage selling,He loves to play ball but I find when I have to clean house and stuff he follows me around and holds on to my leg. He's a momma's boy.I just stopped breastfeeding him so he's kinda attached. He loves the sprinkler outside. He play with that for like an hour.He eats as soon as he wakes up,I uassully give him toast or something like that.He likes when I make him a bowl of cereal and I wait till there kinda soggy then give it to him.Ya anyway hope it helps.
Chill out. 1-year-olds pretty much set their own schedule. By this time they're trying to become independent. They can't yet, of course, but they're trying. And we as parents need to encourage them. My 13-month-old's day kind of goes like this:
Wakes up around 7 a.m.
Eats breakfast by 8 a.m.--whatever she wants. Sometimes eggs and bacon, sometimes oatmeal, or sometimes just pop-tarts. And yes, she does help me decide. she can't talk, but I can get the stuff out and she knows what to point at.
Eats a snack sometime before lunch.I never care what time. And it's a nutritous snack, like graham crackers or dry cereal.
Has lunch sometime around noon. Sometimes later.
Lays down after lunch. Sleeps for anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. I just let her sleep as much as she needs to. She still sleeps all night.
Has another snack after she wakes up. Or sometimes just a sippy cup of milk. Whatever.
She has a bath and goes to bed around 8 p.m. I'm not strict on it, but babies need a lot of sleep, so that's why she goes so early. And she's usually asleep within 5 minutes, and doesn't get up until at least 7.
If I have to change this routine for any reason, which happens pretty often, she does fine. Newborns need a schedule. By 12 months they're working out their own. No need to stress over it.
My 15 month old wakes up between 930 and 1030 in the morning, goes to the potty and is eating breakfast by 11. We take our shower get dressed and if it is not too hot out she goes and runs outside and mess with everyone on the block. She comes in about an hour or so later. She gets lunch around 200 by 330 she is ready for a nap. She goes to the potty every hour except when she sleeps she wears a pamper. After the nap she is up and about again until dinner around 730 or 8. After that she gets a fruit cup around 9, in the bath at 930 in the bed at 10. She sleeps anywhere from 10 - 12 hours. During the day I let her drink milk or juice with meals and water in between. She will get 2 on the go snacks like chips or jello. I hope this helps.
I have a two and a half year old and a one year old. Now every baby's different, so keep that in mind.
My little one usually gets up around 7, sometimes he sleeps until 9:30, it just depends. I first give him a bottle and then around 10:30 or 11 I give him some cereal, like cheerios. I usually just give him some toys to play around the living room. Then around 1 I give him his lunch, either some soup or macaroni and cheesse, whatever your baby likes, if you don't know what foods he prefers, just give him whatever you have on hand and if he likes it he'll eat it, if not he'll spit it out, if he spits it out, don't force him, it'll probably just make him sick.
Give him a snack around 2:30, fruit or veggies, something. If he doesn't want a snack, give him a bottle, my son usually wants a bottle around that time and he takes a nap, usually 45 minutes to an hour, sometimes longer,d epending on how tired he is. Babies at this age usually sleep 12-14 hours a day, so don't worry if he sleeps a lot, it's pretty normal.
Give him something to eat when he wakes up. He should be good to go until dinnertime, usually around 5:30 or 6, then give him some dinner, once again whatever he likes, if he wants a snack later on give him some fruit, then his bottle and off to bed. With kids you have to remember that they need quite a few meals a day and usually not elaborate ones, it's simple stuff, but they're constantly eating so just kind of go with the flow. Listen to him, hell tell you when he's hungry, like I said all babies are different, he'll guide you, don't freak out.
As far as where to take him, take him to a park, put him on a swing and push him, take him to one of those play pens, you know where they have all these balls in, just make sure the place is clean, my little one had a blast when I took him. I hope this helped..good luck and remember let him guide you, after all he does know what he wants and when he wants it.
my routine i get up at seven get my daughter up at half seven even if she is awake before that i leave her till half seven. then she will come down to have breakfast. we normally pop the kids to school and to the shop once dressed. back home whilst i am cleaning up i leave the cbbc channel on TV. around eleven thirty i put babe to bed for two hours. then bring her down to give her her lunch. then we put some music on and dance in the living room. by that time i have to go to school pick kids up. the kids including my one year old go to play in the garden whilst i cook tea. we have tea at five they finish at six. an hour of TV then bath and bed for half eight at the very latest
I have a 10 month old right now and she pretty much does the same thing every day. At around 5 or 6 in the morning she wakes up and I give her a bottle and she goes right back to sleep for 2 more hours. I feed her breakfast like an egg with a little bit of 2% milk. We play for a while or she sits down and plays with the big leggo's. She drinks her bottle at around 12 in the afternoon and takes a 2 to 3 hour nap. By the time she wakes up her food is ready like Green beens with some small pieces of chicken or some soup. I give her different types of vegetables each day for dinner. We might go outside for a while and she plays with her brothers who are 7 and 4. She eats a banana or an apple some strawberries or any type of fruit for a snack. I also give her the arrowroot cookies from gerber so she can munch on once in a while.
At around 8 p.m. she is ready for bed. She wont wake up until 5 or 6 in the morning again and the day repeats itself.
I have a 3yr old, a 2 yr old, and a 1yr old. They get up when ever they feel like it. When they are hungry they head to the fridge and let me know. All of them lay down about 1pm.(my 1yr old is still taking 2 naps a day). We go outside as much as possible, but during the heat of the day I make sure they all have a lot of water and sunscreen. We go out to parks or the zoo on cooler days, and we go to the store at least once a week.
I tried to keep a schedule and all I got was more headaches than it was worth. I keep them on a flexible schedule and make sure that they have enough to eat and enough sleep. Most of the time if they are tired they go and lay on their beds and go to sleep.
If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me: star2003usa@yahoo.com
All babies have different schedules. By the age of one you should know about when your baby gets sleepy in the afternoons and evenings. The baby should also be sleeping through the night.
My daughter's always woke up at about 7:00am and wanted food within a half hour. They also were put to bed at about 8:00pm every night. Babies do well when there is consistancy. I don't mean that every hour is planned, but that everything comes in a pattern. That is how they learn. The basic day when my girls were young consisted of waking up, eating, napping, snack, lunch, nap, snack, dinner. Of course there was lots of playing and going out to stores etc. Each child has their own rhythm.
with my baby. shes up about 8 in the morning. she has breakfast, a wash, and a play. then goes for a nap. or just a lie down. when she gets up she has dinner. then if we wanna go out, for a play or shopping or anything. if not there are things to do at home. sometimes she likes to watch a bit of telly while eating biscuits in her highchair. also she has a sister which helps with play time. sometimes another nap, then tea. a bath. play time. she sits down with me and lays on me, to settle down from playing and goes to bed about 7ish o'clock with a bottle of milk. sometimes if she doesnt go to sleep i get her out for a little bit and put her back to bed without a second bottle, then she wont be too wet int he morning. theres no special routine for a baby. they are all different and im sure your doing it they way you should be. not all babies wanna nap or play quietly. you will work it out.good luck.
Hi my daughter is 17 months. Here is her routine, this was developed over time though since she was about 9months old.
She wakes up between 7am and 8.30am - I leave this to her to decide, I never wake her.
Bottle when she wakes, 30 minutes later breakfast of yoghurt/fromage frais and then dry cereal to pick at. She has very diluted juice at all times available to her. In this weather with ice in.
She usualy plays, or we go out till about 12.
Then she has dinner between 12 and 1.30 again determined by what time she feels hungry. She usualy has a cold dinner, either mini pitta breads with cheese spread, or cocktail sausages and apple and crackers, or sandwiches etc. Followed by either half packet of crisps or a desert or fruit.
Then 30 mins after dinner, between 12.20 and 2.00 she goes down for a nap for between 1 and 2 hrs. Maximum time I'll allow before waking her up is 2.5hrs.
Then its chill out time, usualy sitting on my knee on the sofa watching some tv, or reading a book together till she wakes properly. Again she has a cold drink.
Between 5pm and 6pm she has tea, this is always a hot meal, except in summer, she has mash and beans, or meat and potatoe pie, or chicken stir fry or noodles. I allow chips and fast food on special occasions or when Im in a major rush!
Playtime with daddy when he gets in from work at 5, then winding down with a bath around 6.30- usually with me or her daddy, then put on bedclothes and time for a warm drink of full fat cows milk at around 7-7.30pm.
Bedtime is anytime from 7pm till 8pm.
Babies normally get up on there own. Mine went to bed at 9:00 and were up at 7:00 every morning. They ate rice cereal at first and then slowly we added other foods like Cheerios and oat meal. They do not have to go out everyday, but it is nice for mom and child to get out now and then. Go to the library or book store and get a good book on raising children. The child's doctor should be able to help with these questions and could recommend a book as well. Bless you and yours.
your daily routine is never the same..even if you try.
i have three children 9, 6, and 19months and i tell you what children run the schedule. however they eat and sleep when they want to and a pot and spoon will entertain them. take them to the park to play with leaves for alittle while. let them run in your front yard. put toys on the floor and they truly will entertain themselves. they come already knowing how to play by themselves. teach games like ring a round the rosie, peek-a-boo, sing songs. the littlest thing will do. so if your child doesn't seem bored by what you are doing you must be doing it right. this is all a learning experience for first time moms. as for ating just leave finger foods where he can reach so that he can help himself when he is hungry.
dont worry about what time your baby gets up in the morning it veriys my daughter gets up about 7-8 but sometimes getds up at 6;30. i feed her breakfast in the morning lunch diner and a few snacks threw out the day . my daughter eats anything i eat and she loves it so dont worry to much.
