Contraception?

if you are using the contraceptive pill, you take 21 pills and then a break of 7 days.in those 7 days, is it still protecting you against pregnancy?

Answers:
Yes, but during those days you will most likely be experiencing your menstrual cycle.
no.
yes
Nope
Yes!
yes. the 21 (or sometimes 24) that you take keep you from releasing an egg, or ovulating. The 7 sugar pills, or "off" pills, are just the time in which you should have your period. It breaks the hormone flow from the pills, allows you to have your period, and then the next month of pills does the same thing over again.
Do keep in mind, however, that it is still possible to get pregnant while on the pill.
100% yes. But of course you would get your period in that time too.
yes - in the older packs and other similar types those seven days are represented by sugar pills. The reason you stop taking them is to have a period. If you didn't want to have a period than just continue to take them without the seven day break.
as long as you have a been on the pill for a month or so-these are just sugar pills that you take to menstrate and shed the linning of your uterus. The pill is only like 98% effective. Nothing is 100% . But, if you've been on the pill for over a month, don't worry about getting preg. taking the sugar pills.
To my knowledge you have to keep taking the pill for the entire course without breaks like any tablet or the effects wear off very quickly. So I would say that you are very likely to become pregnant in the time you are off the pill, but why would you want a break, I have to take pills now for the rest of my life and have never even considered taking a break.
Apparenty Yes, but the wife says to wear a waterproof jacket just in case.
Of course
ONLY if you have been faithfully on the pill for at least 6 months
Nope. You must take it every single day. No skipping.
No that's when your menstruating and your not protected.
yes as long as you have been using it at least 1mth you should be on your period in that week, also make sure you remember to take your pill on time after the 7 days!
Yes, you are still protected.
Yes it is. As long as the gap is no longer than 7 days, you are protected all the time, because after 21 days of taking it there is no chance of you releasing an egg for the next 7 days, plus womb lining has been thickened and this will sustain for that time as well. But after 7 days, if you dont take another, the effects will wear off and you could release an egg, so always make sure to start the new pack on time.

I think you should read the instructions and familiarise yourself with how it all works.
the only reason that there is a seven day break is so that you can have your period.i doubt it very much that you can get pregnant with in those seven days.
you would need to come off the pill to get pregnant.
yes of course it is still protecting you as long as you have taken all of your pills correctly and you start the next packet on time and nothing happened that may make the pill less effective eg a bout of vomiting or diarrhoea or taking a certain anti-biotic that was prescribed for you by your GP
Yes but only if you have taken them correctly, not missed any days and haven't been ill with sickness and diarrhoea.
yes, absolutley ,though you will probably be menstrating during that time.the only time this is different is if you are starting the pill for the first time ,or you are changing to a different pill then your doctor will advise you to use condoms as well, until you have had your 2nd packet of pills.it explains how to do this in the instructions.after this your pill should protect you all through the month as long as you haven't had antibiotcs or had an upset tummy then you would need to use the condoms again if unsure ask your nurse at your doctors surgery.
Yes,as long as you have taken your pill correctly for the previous 21 days & continue taking the pill for the next 21 days after your 7 day break.
Yes, as long as your were taking the other 21 pills correctly and didn't forget to take one..
yes you are because that is what studies do show and that is why it is called the pill and you are normally on your monthly friend that week
you are protected. and if you're not i should sue my doctor coz it was her that said it! I trust what she says! You're only not protected if u mess up (foget or vomit etc) on the 21 days of pill taking!
Well I have been on the combined pill since I was 14. It was to sort my skin out and stop me getting such violent pain every month, which it still does but it's also a very good pill contraceptive. There have been a few times where I've forgotten to take it but I have never fallen pregnant. It doesn't protect you no but it can take a long time to fall pregnant on the pill.

Everybodie's different. If you have sex having taken the pill but also another form of antibiotic, it can interfere and then yes you could fall pregnant. I would say if your taking a break then use a condom just to be safe.
NO ITS NOT, On your 7 day break you must use condoms because even though is isnt a real period you are still very fertile as soon as you stop taking the pill, i was on the pill for 5 years, ijust came off last week because were gonna have a little baby
Yes, you should be protected but there have been a few
exceptions.
Yes, as long as you haven't missed a pill, as you are in the part of your cycle when the egg is been got rid of. The little leaflet in the box should confirm this.
The only time when the pill doesn't work properly and you've taken them when you're supposed to is when you get food poisoning, as my sis found out when she got caught with her youngest!
Yes absolutely!
The rules on missed pills has also altered recently.
It takes 7 days to put your ovaries "to sleep" as it were, ie to not ovulate, and 7 days for them to "wake up", so it is actually very good protection, and you are fully covered during those 7 days, period or no period.

If you miss a pill in the first 7 days of your cycle you need extra cover, but a missed pill in the 8-21st day is actually fine, you can actually quite safely miss 2 pills, though if it is in the last 7 days, you should then continue taking your next packet with no break.

The new rules make things a lot simpler, and the pill is 99% effective if used correctly.

Other things, such as antibiotics, and diarrhoea can also make absorbtion decrease, so can make you ovulate technically, and at these times extra protection should be used,
