Little boy confused by Urinal - Help? (please)?

How do I teach my little boy how to pee at the urinal in nursery? The handbook (from his school) says that as there is only 1 loo in a cubical, the boys must use the urinal.
I havent a clue how to teach him.
If anyone can help please explain it to me as im a girl! (obviously).
I was hoping that his mates / peer pressure would help but he is Very reluctant to try new things unless I convince him to.
Lol. xxxx.

I don't think this is an immature question at all, it's not like we have urinals in our bathrooms. If by chance he does not have a father figure around it will be difficult for you to be able to even bring him to a urinal to teach him. No question is stupid. Anyway, they now sell peter potty it is a great little urinal for potty training. It has a stand or you can mount it to your wall. I believe it sells for around 40 dollars but have seen one as low as 14 dollars on ebay. Maybe you could put some fruitloops into the urinal at first for him to aim at, my son loved that when I taught him to stand and potty. Good luck!
it's just like peeing on a tree. he's peed on a tree, hasn't he?
Why don't you ask his dad to show him? How old are you anyways because this is a very immature question!?
Have his father or a father figure demo personally in front of him. If he is like my boy, he'll want to be like Daddy.
If possible I would let him watch an adult male that he trusts (maybe dad, grandpa, uncle, whatever) - or tell him because he's a boy he can use an urinal but girls can't (my boys were very sexist at that age and very into doing things that girls couldn't do) Good Luck!!
First of all I would just like to tell you that this question is in no way immature. It is a valid concern for a parent that has a child in a school setting. Unfortunately I have not run into this w/ my boys so I do not have much advise as far as the actual topic. Maybe after hours the nursery could let you show your son and explain and convince him (when there is no threat of a male walking in). I just felt the need to comment (after reading anothers comment) that a mothers valid concern is in no way immature - at any age and whether or not there is a father figure around.
he stands up in front of it, whips it out, and pees into the bowl, then he puts it back in and flushes. it's just like a toilet except he has to aim either at the drain or towards the wall of the urinal itself.
I assume you do not have a husband around to teach him.
Most boys learn by watching their fathers.
If you have a boyfriend or Male Friend perhaps you could ask them to show him. They will probably make a game of it.
like seeing who can make the most noise when it hits the water.

If you do not have a male friend around.
Put a small stool in front of the urinal at home for him to stand on.
tell him that men pee standing up because it makes noise when it hits the water. You will also need to tell him to shake it when he is done or he will drip.
Or
Put a can out in the back yard and tell him to try to pee in the can
This can also be treated like a game but you will need to let him know that he should not pee in public. and that you would prefer he use the loo.
Ah God that's a hard one. I'd ask advise in the school you can't be the first parent to experience this. You could try promising him a reward, my kids are always up for a bit of bribery
take him in the urinal and show him. Show him how to stand, hold his wee, and how to shake. You don't need a penis to know how to use it.
At our school the urinals have targets in them for the little boys to aim at, maybe you could try a target against a tree for him to practise, although I don't know how you could show him first though, lol.
talk to him and try to teach him how
have him pull his pants down to his ankles and relax and let the flow.
A ping pong ball in the loo might help to encourage his aiming technique! Making a game out of it might help till he's got it sussed. Never tried it with my boys but read about it (the ping pong will not flush away so it says!) Don't worry about trying to get a male role model to show him. All you need to do is show him how to hold it out himself and a wee shake and bob's your uncle! At the end of the day, it's been you that's trained him so far, so I am sure the next step will be very easy. If he can pee into your toilet at home then he can pee into a urinal.
My son is 4 in November, and I've taught him to use the urinal and the cubicle. Basically, you need a man to show him this, either his dad or some other man who he trusts and is comfortable having a wee in front of.

A good tip is to give him something to aim at, eg throw some paper down the cubicle, or get him to aim at the chemical blocks in the urinal. Sounds silly I know, but he'll concentrate so hard on hitting the target that he'll forget to be embarrassed and self-conscious!
