Would it be a possibility it could be paint fumes.?
13 yrs ago my friend experienced s.i.d.s (Cot Death) she came up with her own theory and would like to know what people think. Every new parents to be usually decorate a nursery/bedroom for the new arrival, then when baby arrives the heating usually goes on to keep the room warm a newly decorated room especially gloss paint or satinwood lets off a lot of fumes even months after the room has been painted.tell us what u think please?
Answers:
Sounds feasible.Solvents are very dangerous to adults and teenagers in concentration or prolonged use.
Most leathal short time ie kill ya on the spot drug.
And in babies that would concentrated many fold and their are more sensitive so liklyhood high. Also could combine with other factors.
Could be a combination of things you combione certain products you relaease the same lethal gas that was first used in ww1
not too sure on this one. as paint no longer has lead in it and you can get paint with low fumes and unfortunately it still happens
u know when i was pregnant last year I was building the first floor of my family home for my husband and I to live in with the baby. I was warned the MOST about fumes - paint, wood varnish, floor tile wax etc. It was crazy, so much so that we whitewashed (thats different from acrylic paint) our walls so I could move in peacefully. I wont be surprised if it was paint fumes . also - my deepest sympathies on your friend's loss.
I am not sure about the paint fumes I suppose anything is possible, but they dont know much about sids and that is scareytell your friend not to blame herself for her babies death because there is now answer, As long as it was enough time for the paint to dry and a well ventilated room I wouldnt think that had anything to do with it Especially because it was 13 years ago they knew even less than they do now about this terrible thing.
I am NO EXPERT, but I have read enough about the contents of 'normal' household products including paint - to believe it could indeed cause illness and even death in the very young.
There is plenty of reading material out there on this sort of stuff. I always try and use 'natural' paints without the 'nastier' chemicals in them, just in case! They are dramatically more expensive, but why risk it over a few quid more?
could be a link, probably overheating a bedroom would be more of a probability though, when it happened to my baby the doctors thought the most likely cause was the brain forgetting to tell the lungs to breath, i like that idea.
There is no evidence to suggest paint fumes can cause SIDS or any other illness in babies, children or adults.
They have linked SIDS to sleep positions, overheating, smoking by either parent, but alot of it is still unexplained even all of these years later. Its very hard for any parent to hear that the death of their child is "unexplained", and it will eat your friend up if she goes through this "could it have been this" or "could it have been that" exercise.
That said, its worth her providing her theories on to research departmens that are investingating and researching into the cause of SIDS, they may well have not looked into that possibility and could include it in their research. You never know, if it saves just one baby, then its worth it.
I had my three children as babies sleeping in my room at night as it was easier to feed them. During the day they slept in their newly painted rooms, one is 16 now, one is 11 and one is 9 (I do not think that is the reason myself).
If your friend has another baby and wants to do things differently to put her mind at rest then great! but she cannot worry that she has done the wrong thing in the past, I do hope your friend can move on with her life, I'm not suggesting forgetting her baby but accepting she did her best.
