What are periods usually like after coming off the Pill?

I stopped taking the Pill about 6 weeks ago. I got my period on Friday, only a week later than what I usually do. It was heavy to start off with but now it's practically over. That's only been 3 days when my period usually lasts 5 or 6. Is this normal?

I thought that periods were supposed to be quite heavy and long after stopping the Pill, but this has been shorter and lighter than what it was when I was taking the Pill!

I want to know if this has happened to anyone else or if I should be worried.

Everyones period differs at points in their life, especially after coming off the pill. Don't worry that it only lasted a few days or that you were late, this is quite normal. Get a diary and note the days you start, what they were like and when they finished. You should see in a couple of months you will have your regular periods again. But you can always book an appointment with well women clinic or your doctor who can advise you and reassure you. Take care.
your body had got used to regulating your period in accordance to the pill, so it will take awhile before it goes back to normal. sometimes you don't even get the period, which causes stress and pregnancy fears - and stress delays the period too. i say just relax, your body will self regulate soon and you'll be getting them as painful and heavy as ever - enjoy them being lighter whilst you can !:)
You are okay, Mine was the same way. Although, these things affect people in all different ways. But you have nothing to worry about..except pregnancy.
PS. My cramps were worse on the pills, so no worries.
PSS. If you are trying to get pregnant, do not for a couple months after getting off the pill, for there might still be some in you system for awhile and it can harm you baby.
Be lucky that you got them! Mine skipped for three months after I stopped taking the pill. It will get into a routine again. Mine was normal after that. Just a few days out each month and also with heavy bleeding and cramps again. Good luck!
no,u souldn't be worried.periods can either be really heavy or really light as ur body is getting used to the change.
I am amazed at how many doctors don't explain anything to women before they write a prescription for the Pill! First of all, you don't *have* periods while you are on the Pill. You have withdrawal bleeding. So your body is getting used to having periods again after not having had any for a number of months or years. It takes a while to get it right--just like it did when you first started menstruating at age 10 or 12 (or whatever). Basically, periods can be erratic--short or long periods, heavy or light bleeding, short or long cycles. There is no way to judge what will be normal for *you*.

Until your cycles straighten out, you may or may not be fertile. If you are trying to get pregnant, you might conceive the first month, or it could take a full year. Some women are rendered infertile by the use of hormonal birth control; this is more likely if you never had a baby before using the Pill and if you lost weight while taking it.
They take a while to settle down.
There is nothing to worry about-- the body will adjust quite quickly and periods are not always heavy-- sometimes they can appear lighter and not as long as usual its just your body's way of getting back to normal..

The pill is designed not only to prevent pregnancy but also a way of regulating the cycle and women that are having problems with their hormones go on it too. If you are at all worried go to the gp and get an internal exam to make sure you are sound inside
Yes, this is normal just dont worry about it, it will take a while before the circle goes back to normal but dont mind it. you are ok.
i stopped taking the pill and it did take a while for my next period to start but when it did it as quite short and not heavy , your body has to adjust when you have been taking the pill for a while, so it can find its cycle naturally.
your body needs time to adjust - the first period u get after stopping the pill is called "a breakthrough bleed" then in about 4 or 5 weeks after that you'l get your "normal" periods back. you may find you're quite crampy too
Before i started the pill my period was light and only lasted 3 days. Then i started the pill and now my period is 5 days long and is heavier than what it was with me not being on the pill. I did stop the pill at one stage and my period went back to normal again but then it started getting all irregular so i just went back on the pill. Now i know when my period will start and finish and it is regular, also helps me a lot with period cramps and the outburst of pimples around the period time.
THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME, MY PERIOD USED TO LAST OVER A WEEK WHEN I WAS ON THE PILL. IT NOW ONLY LASTS 3-4 DAYS. QUITE A RELEIF ACTUALLY. YOUR BODY IS JUST TAKING TIME TO ADJUST THATS ALL.
my girlfriend came off the pill injection last year and her periods came back within two months she said they were about the same as before. Maybe a bit lighter though. Although she couldnt really remember as the pill injection stopped her having periods.

Bewarned the pill comes out of your system quicker than you think, believe me I know she fell pregnant 5 months after she stopped taking it.
