My 14mnth old is making himself sick?

He has always been a good eater and ate anything you put front of him, until recently. Now he is making himself vomit if he doesn't like the texture or taste of food and has become fussy literally over night. Any suggestions please?

my brother had this problem and when my parents took him to see the nurse at the baby clinic they said it can be quite commen in baby's to make themselfs sick and this is because they like the feeling,or the rush of what happens when they do it,they may also do it because they find the reaction of the parent funny! try not to worry but its always a good idea to bring it up with a GP,health visitor or someone at your local baby clininc, good luck!
take him to the doctor he may have developed a problem with swallowing.
take him to your GP and talk to a nutritionist
try feeding him something that he always has really enjoyd.you might want to take him to a doctor because maybe he is sick and has no apatite since hes sick
cook him food you know he likes. do not be woried it is a stage of life.
Yes. Give him the food he does not vomit and delete the food he spits up. Also give him an infant supplement and plenty of water.
Don't force him into eating something if he refuses it, because you might give him negative associations with certain foods. However, if he vomits something up, you need to get him to taste just a tiny bit more of it, otherwise he will begin to believe that that particular food makes him sick and he will then avoid that food from then on. Hope this helps!
give him what he will eat that does not make him sick. try cherrios or peanut butter. start him on a vitamin and consult his doctor if his wieght changes. good luck.
I think some children go through a satge like that my son (20 mon,) loves the taste of apples but not the texture so he chews them & parcially swallows then goes & spits them up in the bathroom or garbadge, I talked w/ his ped. she said as long as he is not doing it w/ all food he was ok, But definataly talk w/ your sons doctor
My son would gag and even vomit at the site of food. Stick to the stuff you KNOW he likes and then slowly re-introduce the other foods. We even had to lie to my son and tell him everything was chicken for a long time so he would eat it.
Have you tried sweet potato? Most babies gobble it down because it has a smooth texture and tastes good. One of the tricks that I used was to pretend like I was eating my sons food and enjoying it, then he would want to eat some too.
Infants and toddlers have gag reflexes that are different from an adult's. Things make them gag easier if they don't like the taste. Normally and adult would taste something and they would think "That's gross" but to an infant or a toddler if something is gross they have gag reflexes that go crazy.

I don't think your son is doing this on purpose, I think he is just throwing up because he doesn't like it but can't help but throw up when he tastes something he doesn't like.
My son who is 18mo sticks his fingers down his throat after he eats and has once made himself vomit. I don't think he did it on purpose though. My pediatrician said that is normal and the best thing you can do is remove his hands from his mouth but don't make a big deal out of it. he is probably doing it for attention. Babies that young want attention doesn't matter if its negative or positive. She said still continue to offer the foods he doesn't like (maybe a little portion with meals). If he isnt making himself vomit by sticking his fingers down his throat like my son but gags then take him to your pediatrician to get him checked out. He might be fussy cuz he is teething. could be a molar or his incision teeth (canine). Those usually are really rough on babies. Try getting a washcloth wet and sticking in freezer than giving it to him to play with.. or teething tablets that are all natural from the baby isle at most stores. If you are really concerned, contact your pediatrician. Good Luck and Hope this helps.
Could he have a sore throat?

Or has he had one recently,or any kind of illness?

When my boy used to get a sore throat or had been feeling unwell, he would go off his food.

It would take him a while to get back to normal, and also loved his food?

Just a thought, but to be on the safe side maybe you should get your GP to look him over.

I wish you well
Try not to make a big fuss out of it, basically ignore it when he does it, so that he does not associate that (vomitting) with getting attention from you. Good luck, I hope he gets over this difficult stage soon.
take others advise and see your GP
I agree with several of the other reponses I've seen. Take him to the doctor, just in case it's something more than an "I don't like it" response. In the meantime, don't try to force feed him what he won't eat and give him what he deems edible. If this results in a less than nutritious diet gradually add those things he resists with what he doesn't.
For example: He'll force out celery but likes peanut butter and crackers. Give him his peanut butter and crackers and give him a small piece of celery with the peanut butter on it. He may choose to suck the peanut butter off of the celery, but still gets the "taste" of the celery. After a while, he won't think anything of biting into it just to get the peanut butter and fill his growing tummy.
Hope you're able to work this out with him, at this age, it's very difficult when they choose to assert their tastes.
If you are reacting when your baby does this he will keep doing it .Try playing with him as you are feeding him then he will concentrate on you rather than making himself sick. Make mealtimes fun rather than panicking as he wil sense how anxious you are and keep doing it to get a reaction. If it does keep up you might be better off getting him checked over even if there is nothing wrong e.g sore throat it will give you peace of mind good luck.
