Shooting pains up her rear end? Serious question.?

Hi, this is a question for my friend who is panicking on the end of the phone right now.

She is 25 weeks pregnant, and although has no real pain, feels some discomfort in her stomach. She has shooting pains up her bum, her back aches, and she has a grey discharge that is darker than normal.

I never experienced this with my pregnancy, does anyone have any ideas? I've told her to call her midwife but shes reluctant to do so unless she starts to feel real pain in her abdomen.

Answers:
-I think that the shooting pains are the baby laying on the nerve-and the discharge is called bacterial vaginosis which could require antibiotics-This does need checking but isn't a medical emergency as she would have acute pain in her stomach-she would be dizzy. If it was an emergency you would know-Its normal to have shooting pains at this stage-So long as baby's movements don't change and she is well in herself all should be well.
She needs to call the midwife, this does not sound normal. Good Luck
i never had that either tell her to give nhs direct a ring just for some advice better to ask a professional good luck
Tell her to phone the NHS on 0845 46437 or phone them up hyourself on her behalf. They will sort out the problem. they may make you wait half an hour but they will help.
She needs to call a Doctor, not a midwife. Seriously.
Tell her that it is so important to call her midwife/doctor. No question is stupid unless not asked. It is not worth losing your baby over. I never had this (I am pregnant with my 3rd child). Tell her to get off the phone now and call!!
I think that you should tell your friend to call her primary physician and ask what this could be related to (pregnancy or other). If she cant get through to her physician then she should call a hospital and talk to the emergency department who will be able to tell her if it is an emergency or not. Pain is never a good sign. Better to err on the side of caution when there is a baby aboard.
First thought with shooting pains up the bum is sciatica.
i wud seriously take her to casualty
in both of my pregnancies the weight of the baby on my sciatic nerve.i think thats the spelling..shot up my back but it started it my butt and it was very painful i had to go home from work a few times because it hurt so bad i could not walk my doc suggested a maternity belt but i am not sure if this is the same and i am not sure about the other pains or discharge
It sounds like sciatic nerve pain also know as sciatica. The sciatic nerve goes from your spine (in the lower back area) and runs down thru your butt muscles, then your pelvis, and on down your leg to your toes. There are 2, one for each side/leg. It is really common to get pain from it when you're pregnant because the baby is essentially sitting on it. One solution is to have someone massage your butt muscles because they can be tensing up around the nerve. Another solution is to lay on your back and pull your knee up to your chest as best as you can holding it for 20 seconds or so. This will help stretch out the area in question. You can also get on your hands and knees to try to alleviate some of the pressure of the baby sitting on the nerve as it passes thru your pelvic bones. You can feel the pain anywhere from your lower back to your toes.either the whole area or just part of the area. Hope this helps.
Sounds hinky. Call E.M.S. quick !
It could be your sciatic nerve.
Call! Anytime a discharge is different, check with your medical provider. And let her know that the term "back labor" means you feel it in your back, not abdomen. Tell her to be safe and check with her midwife/doctor.
ive had 2 babies but not sure about this . best to phone her midwife xxx
I'm not sure about the discharge but I had aches and pains throughout my pregnancy. I would call her midwife and talk with her. She will be able to tell her if it warrants a trip to the doctor or not.
She needs to call a Doctor
She needs to contact the midwife.
