Does anyone know how much one to one time under twos receive in daycare?
Answers:
I've heard similar results, but it depends greatly on what type of daycare the child is placed in.
I've worked in a daycare and I would say that sounds about right. And the old saying "the squeaky wheel gets the oil" is also true. If there is a "high maintenance" child always fussy or always in trouble they are probably going to take attention away from children that are more easy going. Unfortunately there is a higher ratio of children to providers so they are spread thin. Depends on your state but where I am the ratio is for every 4 infant under 15 months there is 1 teacher. For toddlers it's 5:1 for 2 year olds it's 10:1. So you can imagine it is hard to provide much one on one attention. The only real one on one time I got with all the kids was during diaper duty and art.
well in my state it is 4 babies to 1 care provider. just imagine having 4 babies to take care of, they arent going to get much individual attention, thats why i dont send my daughter to daycare for more than 3 hours in a day.
I worked in the infant room (6 weeks - 18mos) during my pregnancy. The ratio was 1:4. The days were long and i assure you that i gave my children in my class far more than 6 minutes of one on one time each day. There is alot done as group activity, playing with music, reading stories, art (which we did individually as well as a group). But there is the one on one time during diaper changes where you were cooing and chatting it up wiht the little one. And nap time when you took the time to put each one down their own way. I suggest you talk to the director of the center and ask to sit in on the class. They should have nothing to hide and be able to be spending PLEANTY of time with your children.
